I don't have access to XDA, can someone explain what this is? I thought the Desire with 2.2 had a (well hidden) car mode, is that what this is about?

Took me 2mins to sign up this morning.

The htc panel looks better but doesn't work as well. the froyo one turns your phone into proper car mode
so you have physically exit out using the button to get out of it.

Thanks for this. The Google one is 100% better than the stock one. It even goes into landscape, which the stock one didnt. An issue I found baffling, as I'd imagine most people would use their Sat Nav in landscape.

One question though. On the second screen, there's 3 empty buttons. Is this so you can add your own shortcuts? If so, How??

Thanks again.

Not I! I prefer portrait because you see more of the road ahead. I find it strange that Sat Navs use landscape! Still at least we get the option :D

PLEASE

Will someone just say how you get access to these features? There are now 3 or 4 threads all asking the same thing - how do you run the car mode.

So can someone who's got it please say how they did it!

Thanks

I just downloaded the files form the XDA links on the OP first post.

Installed them through astro file manager, then access them through their icons.

As I haven't got the official HTC car dock they wont remotely start when in the car for me.

I've got a plain vanilla htc desire hd on 3 here in the uk.
It comes with Car panel preinstalled.
Car panel is odd as it works in a strange way for a 'gps' system.
I kept entering a postcode and couldn't figure out why it couldn't find anything.
Took me a while to figure out I had to enter the country then the town followed by the street name and finally the number. But it still got it wrong by over 200m!
So who makes this?

Can I complain about its lack of accuracy to someone?
I paid for the premium navigation. But was surprised by the lack of info about who to call for support.

I was baffled why I couldn't edit a footprint name in Car Panel until I stumbled across 'Locations'. Seems very User unfriendly for a Google App...!
