New to Epic, love it, but will still nit pick

2 days with the Epic and really love it.

It's my 3rd Smart phone.

My first was a Samsung SCH-i760 Running Windows mobile on Verizon. I loved that phone. And my respect for the Samsung was one of the main reasons I chose the Epic over the Evo.

My second phone is a Blackberry 8900. I hate it. I have it only because of work. I hate the keyboard and the browser, and no touch screen. And I'm not too thrilled with ATT.

I can't add to the positive things people have said about the Epic. I love the screen and the apps.

Here are a couple very little problems:

When you're watching a video in landscape, the volume control is on the bottom of the phone and not accessible. I know you can adjust the volume with the touch screen, but I'd rather use the physical switch.

I plan to get the media stand. I understand it has a headphone jack that will not work until the 2.2 upgrade. Does anyone know if it has a volume control?

Second issue, when you see a list of videos in the Gallery, you can't see the video title. This is very frustrating, since one of my main uses for the phone is as a video viewer.

Third, no flash. I was surprised by this. I guess I should have done more research. Hopefully I'll see some flash with the 2.2 upgrade.

I have some questions about apps and functions and things like that, but I'll put that into separate posts.

There are several good media/video players out there that should do what you're looking to do. Search the market or check the applications forum on this site for some recommendations.

Flash will come with 2.2, or be available soon after 2.2. Just have to be patient!

Why is volume control inaccessible just because it's on the bottom? I use that toggle all the time...

There are several marketplace apps that allow you to watch videos (many, I think, that are better than the stock app, and at least a few who play many more formats than the stock app)and show the title when you browse for which video you want to see.

I'm not sure why you're surprised by the lack of Flash support in 2.1. It's a pretty big topic. iPhone doesn't have it, either. I'm not familiar with Blackberry's OS, but I'm guessing it doesn't, either. It's coming in 2.2 in a few weeks, so it's really a non-issue.

I don't know anything about the media stand.

I have the phone propped up, facing me, with left side of the phone against the surface of my desk. If it was flat on the desk i could hit the button, but when I have it leaning up, I can't.

I would think that when it sits in the base, the button is not accessible. I've seen some people post that when the put the phone into the base, they accidentally mute the phone.

Thanks both of you for the advice to look for a new video player app. Have to remember... when in doubt.. look for a new app!

It has Flash lite.

Froyo 2.2 will support Flash 10.1

I thought so too but when my Evo had flash lite 2.1 I was able to view episodes on NBC.com. Not so with the Epic. Maybe there are different variation of flash lite?

Below is a video of my Evo when it was still stock 2.1 which I uploaded on June 18th. Way before Froyo was out. Man I miss that show.....
