ADW vs Launcher Pro

I've been trying to figure out which is inherently better ADW or LP. To me it seems like ADW is a bit better because you can pick different themes for it. Haven't found a way to do that for LP (if there please let me know). But does anyone have any input on which one is better and why?

edit. Also if there is another launcher app that is better other than the two listed and why?

I've always been happy with LP. The dev is constantly updating/ improving it and I enjoy a lot of the features included with it, (e.g., landscape mode, 3D app drawer, etc...) I don't believe there are themes for it like ADW but it is not hard to change the icons or dock to pretty much what ever you want. There are a ton of APK's available.

I was using LP as well and I liked it too. And the 3D app drawer was awesome, tho I didn't care for the landscape mode. But I couldn't find ways to fully change the dock and icons with out applying a theme made for a launcher (ADW for example) so I just switched to ADW. How do you go about changing the icon and dock layout?

There is no correct answer to your question. It is all about preference. I was a long time ADW user, and still think it is top notch. However I switched to LP about a month ago due to his new launcher pro plus widgets that are so similar to sense that I wanted to switch. Now that I have used LP and no all the features it is my launcher of choice. I like the ability to have 3 dockbars. Both developers are amazing and quick to respond to problems. IMHO you can not loose with either.

2 things I saw were differences.

LP has a scrolling dock that allows me to quickly access my most used apps no matter what screen I'm on. Internet, phone, text, camera, fb chats.... ADW has a dock, but can't hold as many apps.

ADW allows resizing of widgets for free, where LP allows it for the 2.99 purchase of the upgrade. I may end up buying it soon enough. But for now, I haven't

I use LP for the scrollable dock with up to 14 apps you can place on it.

As far as icon packs, you can use a free app, desktop visualizer, that allows you to make you apps have any icon you want. I have a pretty FSU Seminoles heavy theme going on mine.

Would you be able to post a screen shot of your FSU theme?! That would be awesome!

Considering full customization, LauncherPro + desktop visualizer or FolderOrganizer (paid, can read icon packs downloaded from Market) tops it. ADW needs premade themes, there are a few nice ones, ADW is catching up fairly quickly as the 1.2 release allows widget resize after placement and an addon for ADW notifications like ADW's missed calls/SMS/emails notifications.

They're both good in each own's way, I still prefer LauncherPro plus even after buying ADW notifier.

I personally use ADW; but have used LP in the past and it's good too; as Jhenson mentioned there is no right or wrong answer; they are both the very best of the launchers out right now.

My advice would be to play with both and decide which you like best; sounds like you already have a preference so go with it. Also people say LP is faster at swiping but theres settings in ADW to adjust how fast or slow you swipe as well as the bounce you get; so im pretty sure you could mimic LP smoothness in ADW with the proper settings.

I have both on my Droid X at the moment, but will be deleting LP pretty soon. I like LP, it's plenty smooth, but I get 3-4 FC's a day on it, there's something with the autorotate and native landscape apps that doesn't play well. I disable autorotate for a week, and didn't have a single FC, but as soon as I reenabled it, they came back. I like autorotate, and haven't had a problem with it using ADW, so I'm switching to that. If they get LP fixed, I may go back, but for now, I can't use it.

You need to adjust the memory settings.

That's exactly the problem I had on the LG Shine Plus and it occured in both ADW and LauncherPro, seems when you switch orientation it eats up memory to redraw everything over and over, I ended up going with Zeam launcher because it uses so little memory and hasn't caused any problems. On my Desire I always keep it locked in portrait mode on the launchers.

Question: I have a mytouch 3g with 1.6 on it, so the only adw version available is the ADW.Launcher (donut). Is this version ever updated or is it absolete. Thanks!
I'm in the same boat but will be sticking with ADW when the update comes. And it's just had an update hasn't it which as already mentioned allows the resizing of widgets.

You need to adjust the memory settings.

What do they need to be adjusted to? I haven't touched anything in the memory settings, it's just like it was when it was installed. I'm guessing make the buffer or something bigger? I've sent many error logs to the LP forums, and there seems to be a buffer issue, but I don't know what to do to fix it. Besides installing ADW.

Do you have LP or LP +?

It depends upon what you find more useful to you.
Advantages for ADW -
Themes - you can't theme in LP
That's it

Advantages for LP
More control over the app drawer - 5+ columns and rows, even 3d which is real cool - and faster
better control over the docking bar - can have 3 bars and they loop
biggest advantage - the ability to re-size the widgets - and with desktop visualizer, you can create some pretty cool shortcuts.

So, if you're into variety and like to get one theme all in one place, ADW may be better; if you're a tinkerer and like to have things the way you like it, LP would be better. Either one is very good.

Yeah being able to resize widgets was worth the $3 to me!

Help! I'm using LiveHome on Android 2.2 on Samsung Galaxy S...

I have 5 Screens. If I don't load a picture on a specific screen the error message "Screen 5: Picture is unavailable. Need to setup or reload."

I don't want a picture on this screen. I just want it black background "as is". I have a widget and the error message shows in background behind widget. Help!
