Help Phone slow after factory reset

After having a few quirky things happen with my phone over the past week since I got it (lost time, notifications are intermittment), Verizon suggested that I Factory Reset my Fascinate.

So now, not sure I am going crazy, but my phone seems slower. Just unlocking with the puzzle piece has a lag and moving from screen to screen seems to be slower.

Could this be possible? I thought it would be the other way around. From what I recall, it was screaming fast before I did the reset. Should I do it again?

Factory data resets of Android devices often benefit from a few reboots immediately following the reset procedure; almost as a last step.

I've also heard that when you reflash a ROM you should let it sit for a good 20 minutes on your first boot before you start setting up. Apparently there are still all sorts of background processes going on.

Try resetting again and let it idle for a while after boot and see if that helps at all.

Yea, I got hit with the lag after VZW suggested Reset. (I thought my wifi had gone out...cause every other wireless device at home worked except my SF. Turns out all I needed to do was reset my Wireless router...)

Now it's laggin at the puzzle piece and when I shuffle through screens.

I'll keep checking in to see if anyone has found any fixes to this. :(

EXACTLY!!! That is exactly what is happening to me! Laggin at the puzzle piece and when I shuffle. May be lagging in other places but I haven't gotten that far yet.

Yes, hopefully someone can help us!

Question for you guys,

Say you're at a far left/right panel on your home screen, and you hit the home key...Does it take a while for your wallpaper to catch up and for you to start flipping through the panels?

YES, no matter where I am on the phone, if I hit the home key it lags bringing in the screen. Not like it did prior to the factory reset. At times I could just about say it "dissolves" in. Ugh! Very noticeable here and when unlocking the phone with the puzzle piece. Oh, and also when you flip through the panels. :(

Thanks for the help! :)

Oh duh, you were asking the "guys" out there for advice.....forgot we were in the same boat :)

Is this lag that we are experiencing the lag that some folks are fixing by rooting and applying the lag fix? Is that something a novice can do with specific instructions? I'm somewhat computer savy, but not sure I could manage rooting???

I cannot answer definitely if the lag fix will actually fix your problem. I can tell you five minutes or less after you start the rooting process you will be done. How to Root - Android Forums

Rooting is super easy, no worries there.

Question: Are you all hitting HOME to get back to homescreen instead of BACK? Hitting home leaves the program in memory while hitting back will exit. Just something to be aware of that might help.

Humm, not sure. I will have to test that however, I do get the lag when I am just open the Apps menu and without opening anything I either hit the back or the HOME key. Nothing running on my Fascinate....

Not sure if this is related, but now I am getting great battery life! System in lagging but my battery is holding its charge for much longer than it did before. Lovin the battery life but not the lag. I'm headed to the Verizon store where they have a tech counter. While I'm there I'm going to look at the in store Fascinate to see if I detect a lag on their unit. If so, then maybe I just was dreaming! :)

OK, can I ask a super easy and dumb question......what does rooting really do for your phone? And I assume I hook my phone up to my computer using my usb cable? And if I screw it up, can I factory reset again? I haven't done any special setting up on my phone yet. Still working out some of the bugs. lol!

BEFORE you do anything, start here and do some research!

Rooting allows access to more "basic" levels of the phone so you can manipulate and customize it. For example, you can manually increase the processor speed if you want, etc. Here's a link to a guide.

EDIT - I asked a question to try to help you out.

I booted into recovery mode (held down vol +/- keys and pressed power) found here...
http://androidforums.com/fascinate-...3490-how-do-we-reboot-into-recovery-mode.html

cleared the cache and then did the factory reset through this menu.

I think...I think my phone is back to the way it used to be prior to the factory reset from within the settings menu. (puzzle piece is fast, and home screens flip without lag).

Good luck!

So Konos, did you do the root process or did you just do the reboot into recovery mode and clear the cache, then factory reset again?

Carrottop,
No root. I'm still holding off on rooting...Mostly because I don't know what I'm doing yet.
I just went straight into Android recovery mode while my phone was off. Selected the clear cache option, then did the factory reset option.
Did it earlier today...so far it seems to have done the trick.
Let me know if it works for you.

I will do the same since I can handle doing that. Not ready to root my phone myself yet...I'll let you know.

BTW, I did stop in at two verizon stores today and both SF that they had had the same lag......hummmm.....I swear mine was much faster! lol!
