Help Hard Reset?

I was told by my local Verizon store that I can improve battery life by doing a hard reset on my phone by doing a hard reset. Before I turn it into a brick, I wanted to get some second opinions. Anybody else done this?

I did a hard reset after upgrading to froyo.

I do believe it can help many problems.

Yes, you should after receiving froyo, it fixes a lot of issues.

But I upgraded the RUU method...would there be any benefit doing a hard reset?...

nah, ruu, update.zip, or applied ota is the exact update, if your having issues, do a hard reset and things should improve. and yeah i think this was mentioned

The new android 2.2 update did not catch on my phone. The store said if I hard reset the phone the update would be pushed again. Its that true?

After reading more into this the info I found is this...I copy and pasted it here...


For those who don't know, the RUU was a flash. It wipes everything out of the phone and reinstalls a clean copy of Android 2.2 The OTA was an update. All that does is overwrites your system file and few other files, and that's it. Because of this, you will have compatibility problems with apps installed from 2.1 on 2.1. The same thing happened with Eris & Droid users going from 2.0 to 2.1.


Not being argumentative...just confussed now?...

Either way...I did the reset and see if it helps...

Actually that is 100% correct. If you used the RUU to update your phone with 2.2 then the phone was already wiped before the install took place. So there shouldn't be a need to factory reset after. It was a clean install.

If you received the OTA from Verizon, I would highly recommend a factory reset after and it cures 90% of the problems people are complaining about with Froyo.

It depends one what you mean by "did not catch" and why you didn't get it or it didn't install.

Do you just mean that you never received the update? If so, you can use the RUU to just do it yourself.

It is possible that resetting the phone will allow the OTA to come again, assuming of course that there is some bug in your phone preventing you from receiving it. But there is really no way to know for sure.

Verizon's answer to everything is "do a reset". While I agree that it's helpful in many cases, it's not helpful in all cases. It's basically just the quick and easy answer for them to give.
