So what do you think looks nicer out of the two. Personally i prefer the look of the Desire to the Desire Z. I quite like the backing of the Desire Z, but not the front compared to the Desire. Also the Desire Z appears to me that it is somewhat a little thicker compared to the Desire, though i have not looked at the specifications of the Z model.

Please give your thoughts.

For ease of reference, I thought you would have posted the pics ;)

The desire looks better because I have no idea what the Z looks like.

I actually really love the new look of the Z, I'm not such a fan of the Desire HD though, as I was kinda hoping for a proper aluminium unibody design like the legend. I think it does look a little better than the Desire though.

Spec wise the Z looks pretty nice, and although the processor is clocked at only 800MHz the new 45nm architecture should mean a slight increase in performance and power consumption over the current Desire (as I understand it). But, if the speculations for gingerbread are to be believed, devices will need a minimum clock speed of 1GHz to run the new version, something that hobbles the Z is a huge way (if it turns out to be true!)

Other than that it's pretty similar to the Desire (screen size, RAM etc.) But with Qualcomm working on dual core CPU's it really won't be long before we're seeing mobile devices really blossoming, providing the battery technology increases in line with the processor enhancements to run the damn things!

Also, the Z has a real keyboard, something that may be a deal breaker for you if you value that kinda thing.

Prefer the look of my desire tbh.

On a side note I think I'd be worrying constantly about opening the keyboard on the z,that hinge looks a bit iffy to me!

Same here. I also prefer the Desire I have right now (it's not the "Z"). IMHO the round trackpad looks much nicer than the one on the Z and the buttons are nicely in place as well. I prefer those to the ones on the Z (soft buttons if I'm not mistaking)

As Casual Pete mentioned, the hinge on the Z looks kind of fragile to me. I'm not saying that it is, it just looks that way. If it wasn't firm/solid enough they probably wouldn't have produced it (but you never know).

Never the less... I would like one :D

Like the original desire best of the 3, its just a nice size and the circular "eye" type trackpad looks nicer than the square thingies on the other phones.

I like physical keyboards but dont like the look of the one on desire Z. I had a nokia 9500 a while ago which had an awesome keyboard (for a phone) as it was a clamshell. Think the sliding form factor will have difficulty creating a keyboard as comfy to use.

Personally, I prefer the buttons below the dock on the current Desire - I like real bottons, but I could be persuaded when I get to try out the new touch buttons. I think the keyboard on the Z is great but it adds extra thickness which would be a down side for me. The Desire HD would be my preferred phone if I had to lose my Desire - it's still very slim and the larger screen would be nice.

I think the Desire HD is a very nice phone (though I don't think id go out of my way to get one simply because of the poor choice of screen, why if they are out to "kill" the iPhone would they go for a 3rd rate screen!? Anyway, off on a random tangent). Out of the Desire and the Z id go for the Z on looks, Ill be honest, I dont think the Desire I have is that much of a looker... Still love it though :)
