Can I make a ring/text tone out of music I put on my DX?

For example, I've decided that when I get my DX I want "Uncle F***a" for my ring tone and another short audio clip for my text tone. Can I do this or do I have to purchase and download ring/text tones from Verizon?

I have AT&T now, so I don't really know how it works for Verizon and/or if there is a way to do this with the DX.

I use Ringdroid..its on the market and free. You can edit your music to make it a ringtone.

Can you do this without an app?

I added an mp3 to my phone via Dropbox, but it seems you have to create a set of folders on your sd card. Which I did, but the mp3 file did not even show up?

If I install this app will I then be able to add the mp3 file that I want as a text notification sound?

I'd prefer no app for this, but if I have to, I will.

If you connect ypur your phone to your pc using usb, then click on the connection in the notifications bar and change it to mass storage you should be able to put the mp3 on your phone. Change to connection back to pc mode before you disconnect so it removes safely

Roger that I was able to do that. The problem is when I go to text settings, and want to select that mp3 file to be my notification sound, it does not appear in the list.

You need to save it as a notification instead of a ringtone. All of my ringtones and notifications are made with ringdroid, I even deleted the pre installed system tones.

How do I do that?

I have the song I successfully made into a ringtone here:
media --> Ringtones

The other file which won't work is here:
media --> audio --> notifications

The easiest way is to open ringdroid and choose your notification sound (the one that isn't working), select the entire clip, then hit save. On the pop up there is a drop down menu that says ringtone by default, change it to notification and hit save. That should work.

...wow. Such a simple, effective solution. Thanks! Go Cowboys!
