I don't believe the Droid is worth keeping for me. I have had 4 non-software issues within the last month. First was the camera button - It mashed itself in (apparently from the factory) and the button is harder to press than the others. Second was that I randomly couldn't recieve calls. They would automatically roll to voicemail that didn't exist. This problem I got resolved after a few hours of enduring tech support; apparently my number was just "lost" or something. I guess they made it found? Third came when it wouldn't turn on. Battery in/out fixed that, thank god. Lastly my phone will not turn on. I have tried two chargers, and still zip. Finally I switched out the battery with another Droid's (There are 4 other Droid users in my family) and it works with the new battery.

Apparently new, hyped things aren't worth getting. Or am I just overreacting?

My 30 days is up tomorrow and I plan on just returning it unless someone wants to convince me to exchange for a -hopefully- more functional phone.

I would exchange it for a Droid that works. I thought I had bricked my phone tonight and I was in supreme panic mode. (I actually missed part of the Florida/Alabama game in performing CPR on my phone.) I don't want to lose it. I want it to work!, but I don't want to give it up for anything else. I think it is fantastic!

I wonder if the lemon Droids are Droid exclusive or is it something typical with a new product role out. Maybe a rush to market? Ive never had an Iphone but I remember they had problems at first as well. So did the BB Curve and Storm. I have had 0 problems myself with the Droid and am very satisfied. The way I see it, it will only get better with the coming updates!

If you exchange it during the 30 day period and I think you said tomorrow is 30days and if you purchased on the release day you are correct. You will get a new one not a refurbished.

No matter what happens I would almost say there is nothing in Verizon's policy that is ACTUALLY set in stone. I have gone through about 10 different phones in the last year and I only had five different models, and after the first or second refurbished replacement I made sure they gave me brand new ones.

You just can't take no for an answer, I am a manager in an Electronics store and I know from personal experience that if the customer is persistent enough in a NICE way they get what they want almost every time.

Any new release anything has bugs, I never buy a first year vehicle but I love to get a new release electronic toy. I guess I like small bugs but steer clear of the big guys!

Hate to hear you've had so much trouble. Cross my fingers...I have not yet. While there are a couple software upgrades that I think definitely need to be in place, I am overall extremely happy with the Droid. I'd exchange it. Good luck!

Definetly not a Droid exclusive. I had my Touch pro replaced 7 times in the year I owned it.. The Mogul I had before that went through at least 5 swaps. All most every member of my wifes family owns one version or another of the iphone and several of them have needed replacements as well. I think it's just how it is.

Some of your stories about multiple swaps make me depressed.

My Droid seems to be working pretty well, but I've only had it about 4 or 5 days. The one goofy thing I've experienced so far is that signal it picks up greatly varies in strength. I've been upstairs in my house and watched it go from full strength 3G down to 1X... then nothing.

I may have to gripe and see if I can get one of the base station things at a discount.

In my history, I had a RAZR shortly after they came out. About a year in, the screen went completely white. Cingular (at the time) swapped it for a refurb, which I still have and I guess it still works. I got an iPhone about a week after the initial release, and though it worked well, the audio volume (of the built in earpiece) was way too low. A friend got one around Christmas, and his was MUCH louder. I went to an Apple store and got it swapped for a refurb that worked better. I used that until probably three or four months after the release of the 3G, then upgraded and managed to sell my old iPhone to a dude in Russia for almost $400.

I've had that 3G since, and I actually still have it. I'll probably throw it on eBay soon and try to get a hundred or so for it.

I hope the Droid does not give me any problems. I hope Moto knows they need to have a GOOD dog in this fight if they want to survive.

Quality is not what it use to be when it came to devices. I moved to the Droid from being a blackberry owner for 10 years or so for personal and business. When a BB was not my personal phone I owned anything from a HTC, Nokia, Ericsson (before Sony ruined them), or a Samsung at one point.

Quality on the hardware and software has gone down hill. Specially since they are trying to meet the mindless consumers demand of something new every 6 months or so to get our hard earned $$$. Once all the returns starts affecting the bottom line of the whole chain then it will hopefully get better.

I want a new device yes, but I want quality also.

I have to say I am impressed so far with my Droid. Specially it coming from Motorola which has a horrible track record with phones here lately.

I would say return the phone and get a new one try it out. I would also suggest calling VZW Customer care. Explain in very good detail the issues you are having and ask them to extend your 30-day for an additional 14 weeks to ensure you will not have another issue with the Droid. If you explain your issue and are very nice about it chances are you will get this. This way you can seriously see if it is the product or just that one device. If it is the product then get something else. If it is the device then you had a 14 day window to get another one or to switch it out to a different model or totally different platform/phone.

Android is awesome and I am so glad I gave RIM the finger. I am sick of their poor quality control on the hardware they puke out and the poor OS they have since they have gotten fat in their days of being on top. Don't get me wrong now blackberry is awesome at what it does but it is all that it does anymore and their is no innovation.
I am glad google stepped up to plate and put the challenge back....

Ask if you can play with it in store for a few minutes and test the buttons and especially the slide. I've come to understand that a good percentage of them have alot of play (or slop) in them. Mine is still tight as can be after about 100-200 slides. That would be my approach if I were you. But as with opinion you may find a different approach suits you better, either if you decide to swap it out be reasonable and don't come back with a post about how your new phone is better. That'll be your opinion and it's not a very classy move.... just sayin is all

@OP - It seems that you've decided to try one more - honestly, good luck to you. My conspiracy theory is that some of the so-called new devices were in fact used to demo to sales reps and such - I ordered mine online and got a brand spanking new one and other than 'over running' it as radikal mentioned above, and the usual suspects (camera issues due to software glitch, BT being a major PITA on my desktop computer) I have had good results with it.

If you decide ultimately to return / exchange, good luck with your new phone. If you decide to swap for a new one, better luck with the new one.
