ugh swype not working again

Ok this thing stopped working again, I am subscribed to the beta program, and tried reinstalling it again, but no luck.

Anyone else having this issue?

Yepper. Got the same thing this morning. I am wondering if there is a line or command in the Androidmanifest.xmi that can be changed or removed to fix this? I have been looking via root explorer but cannot find anything to change or remove.

Really too bad they just don't put it in the market. They could sell it for $10-15 easily. Heck I just pad almost $10 for slideit.

I have a feeling that the phone mfgs have a deal going with swype not to release it to the public as they want to promote it as a new feature on the new phones. Just a feeling though...

I still cant get it to work. I've rebooted so many times. I've ran a search in root explorer and in astro for all swype instances, removed them, reboot, reinstall, and STILL not working.

I've also followed Swype's instructions removing all widgets, and shutting down all running apps and services..and STILL nothing. GRRR

On the first day the new beta came out, I tried all those steps, too, and failed over 10 times to get it installed. Finally, I tried one of the suggestions in the troubleshooting section of the Swype forum: I installed Swapper2 from the Market and temporarily enabled Swap (then when Swype installed, I hit the "back" key instead of "Done,") and, finally, Swype registered and allowed me to enable it. Then I disabled swap (just follow the instructions in the Swapper2 app) and uninstalled Swapper2.

I do a LOT of ROM testing for devs and I've found that installing Swype first thing after wiping partitions in preparation for ROM testing, and always using the "back" key rather than "Done" after Swype installs, makes it very easy.

Hope this helps!

Yeesh, what a process. Do you have a link to that support article? Just so I can read it in full?

I trust this method doesn't work with the old Milestone version.

EDIT: I'll just send to you in a PM.. apologies if I broke a rule, but its not pirated.

I responded to your PM but I will post info here so the rest of the people reading this will understand.

The manufacturers of the Swype keyboard have not released any kind of "public" beta to my knowledge. If they had, you would be downloading from the same location where all the people that were invited to take part in the beta got it from.

Swype | Text Input for Screens

Looks to me that the beta is closed. Be sure to sign up for the next beta :D

If anyone can point me to documentation from the people who make Swype that states the .apk can be shared publicly, outside of the official beta, then we would be happy to let you throw up links to the file all over the place.

Hell, I'll host it ;)

Please understand there are possible legal ramifications at stake here.

Afterthought: Just cause it doesn't cost anything to be in the official beta...doesn't mean that it's okay and that it's not theft to download a free "unofficial" copy.

I didn't have an issues installing the new Beta version of Swype. Just uninstalled, and installed the new version.

I also played around with some of the other similiar keyboards. The trial version of SlideIt, in my opinion, was a cheap imitation.

I have been playing around with ShapeWriter a little bit, and that seems to be more responsive than Swype, but not as accurate. Also, the punctuation is a little more cumbersome in ShapeWriter versus Swype...
