Help 3 phones - do I have to pay 3 times for an app?

Of course not, but if I have 3 computers I can put the same software on all 3 !!!

Why did you feel it necessary to answer my question with such sarcasm?

lol, he was being a bit sarcastic tbh.

Anyway, i thought you have to buy the software 3 times if you want to put it on 3 different computers, unless those computers are all like in the same house or something. If you own 3 phones you can put the same app on by paying once, but your 3 phones have different owners! (if they didn't, they'd have the same gmail address)

Almost all pc software licences are single computer use only. often this is the legal agreement of the licence. however, many won't bother putting methods in place to check the agreement is being adhered to. you take your installation files and install them elsewhere. its not legal, but if they don't connect to the net they can't always tel which is how you may have gotten awwy with it.

I don't condone it really

Yes he was. And my question was a genuine one from someone who is new to Smartphones.

Exactly, a single user licence means that it can be put on any machine belonging to, and for the exclusive use by, the purchaser.

If you own 3 phones you can put the same app on by paying once, but your 3 phones have different owners! (if they didn't, they'd have the same gmail address)

No, the phones are all owned by me and belong to the same account with Vodafone, which is why I thought I may be able to use the app on all three.

I understand the question. Apple allows you to install a paid application from the app store several times on different devices, owned by different people in a household (i.e. with different email addresses in use on each device).
My brother pays an app once, then loads it onto the iPhones of his wife and kids, and onto his iPad.

So no, it is not so completely normal to think that Android would do this differently. THE store to beat is Apple, and they have a competing business model for apps, which apparently is less restrictive in this regard (!) then the Android app store.

Who would have thought..

Thanks, Lekky. That's the sort of answer I was after :)

@ htcdesirepaul
I'm glad someone understood where I was coming from :)

I think that is at least immoral, making the analogy with PC software.
Moreover, I think most would be fairer to ask the manufacturers.
I for example, when I purchased the license for "Documents to Go", I received the following:
"DataViz Order Processing Notification

Exactly my point. Did you read my posts? The licence is for the USER and all 3 phones belong to me on the same account with Vodafone. So, why the attitude?

Why? I'm very new to this so maybe understanding it incorrectly (which is why I asked the question in the first place!) but are apps not software for the phones as PC software is software for a PC?

ONE license means you can install it on ONE computer or phone (whichever applies) Recently when I bought Microsoft Office it came with THREE licenses, which means it can be installed on THREE computers.

If those phones are for different family members then you should buy an app for each phone. If you personally are using all 3 (though why I can't imagine) then you should be able to use your account to put them on all 3.

That's exactly my point, with or without sarcasm, but MCEmily not want to understand.
