Root "AAC+ Fix" is not working

I just got an update to Rhapsody. They added a new option. The option is entitled 'Force MP3 streaming'. Below it says 'Prevent use of AAC+ content for streaming'.

Could someone tell me if this is an attempt to fix the problem we're having? I tried both options and didn't really notice much of a difference. What do you think Rhapsody was attempting with this new option?

OK, I just installed Liquid Frozen Yogurt 1.6 and am using Pandora 1.3 and things sound awesome again!! :D

So I recommend you guys try it out.

I don't want to try Pandora 1.41 (latest version) because I'm afraid I will lose audio fidelity :p
Pandora must have implemented their own fix by streaming with a different codec. Slacker DEFINITELY does not work with LFY 1.6 (listen to attached sound clip in the first post).

If you bother to read the Pandora web site it clearly states that version 1.4 had NOTHING to do with audio quality.... In Fact their FAQ section still clearly states that there is a Quality issue with Android 2.2....

There are currently NO Froyo updates that truly solve the quality issue when streaming over 3G. Pandora does use a higher bit rate and MP3 codex when streaming over WiFi. I thinks this is why so many people get confused about this issue.

The ROM's with the Google Patch do sound better, but do not fully solve the quality issue when streaming over 3G with Pandora and a few other streaming sites. Some songs tend to sound better than others depending on how they were originally encoded...

Maybe this is why people are claiming audio quality is "fixed". Slacker and Pandora sound great over WiFi... because they are using a different codec.

I'm glad I am not the only one frustrated with this. Its kinda ironic that we have been able to modify our Droids to do some amazing things that they weren't necessarily meant to do, but no one can figure out how to fix this! I was still using ese81. I put BBv0.5 on yesterday, and its no better than any other 2.2 rom. (The streaming audio that is, the rest of the rom is great, thanks Pete.) I am really hoping something works soon cause I want to keep froyo.

OK I take this back.. :( it looks like it's still not amazing on either Pandora 1.3 or 1.4.1, or at least it 's fine with SOME songs but not with all. (All on 3G; I haven't even tried Wi-Fi)

This is really a bummer :(

Do you know if BB 0.5 has the Google "fix" for Stagefright? I know it's not a perfect fix but some songs do sound better with it than without, and since I was considering installing BB 0.5 I really want to know about this.
Thanks :)

Has anybody tried the LFY 1.7 ROM yet? It is supposedly built from FRG83 source code. If I recall correctly, this is the Froyo release that several EVO/Nexus One users claim fixes the AAC+ quality issues.

If you have tried it already, please report back! Otherwise I'm going to take the plunge when I get home from work tonight.

Just tried Froyo 2.2.1 (Liquid Frozen Yogurt 1.7)... the audio still sucks.

The compression artifacts actually seem to have improved slightly on this version... however everything is distorted and extremely overdriven. Maybe the decoding problem has been fixed, but now it sounds like a cheap stereo that is cranked to 11 (especially the bass).

I'm starting to lose hope that there will ever be a fix for this problem.

SLACKER HAS BEEN FIXED!!!!!!!

After many months, Slacker has implemented a workaround for this issue in its latest update (2.1.92). Go into the settings menu of the application and change the "Mobile Network Audio Quality" to "High". This forces the application to use a different codec (probably the one used for WiFi streaming). This application sounds great again using an FRG83 ROM.

It's a workaround that is likely consuming 3x more bandwidth than before (which is fine until Verizon starts forcing tiered data pricing on us). We'll see how well this works during rush hour when the EV-DO network is overloaded... I'm not holding my breath. At least I can finaly in theory use Slacker and Froyo on the same device!

No thanks to Google!
