Music control from the lock screen.

Hey guys, I've had my Droid now since this past sunday and I have to say this is an awesome device. I switched from the iPhone and I'm glad I did. The Droid and Verizon make it an unbelievable experience.

I've have had to get used the Android OS, but like anything new it takes time. I've explored everything on this phone so far and the one thing that I would love to have is music controls from the lock screen.

I see there is an open circle on the slide dialer so hopefully we could see an update implement this feature. Is there anything like this on the market?

What I would like is to be able to map the camera button when the camera is not in use to toggle Pause/Play for the music player (and maybe double-click to skip tracks). Since the volume rocker already works (IIRC), then with this we could have control of the player without needing it on the screen.

I'd highly appreciate this, too. You can pause/play with the headset button but I'd like to have the ability to skip a song without unlocking.

I know this isn't the best alternative because its not free, but I would suggest a pair of bluetooth headphones. I got a pair of in-ear headphones with several sizes of rubber earbuds for about $70.

They are made by Sony and the sound quality is incredible. I'm a sound nut (I have a $3,000 surround sound system) and I think they compare with the Bose in-ear headphones with no question about it.

But anyways the reason I think you would appreciate them is because on the little dongle thing that is attached to the headphones is a tiny little joystick thing and up/down is volume and left/right is back/forward to skip tracks. I go running everyday and I love these things because my phone can be in a pocket zipped up and even as I'm runnin g I can skip tracks without having to mess with the phone.

Nothing on the market yet. I know a developer by the name of Stericcson made a really nice lockscreen but it only works on rooted Android devices and has to be part of the ROM. Maybe he will port it over in the future.

What? Umm.. You missed "Lock 2.0". It's not free, but it is a lock screen with built in media controls, and it says nothing at all about having to root.

I bought a Audio/Mic Adapter from Seidio:

Audio/Mic Adapter (Black) - 3.5mm Male to 3.5mm Female

I found that the "answer" button on it pauses/restarts the default music player. Plus with my noise-canceling headphones I can make/take a phone call and just hold the phone at a comfortable distance in front of my face to allow me to check/update my calendar while on the phone. The incoming audio goes into my headphones and the mic on the adapter picks up my voice sufficiently. Not bad for $15.

Comments on this app are extremely negative, and apparently it doesn't secure your phone because it's just an app and can be bypassed by holding the home key. I guess that is why no app will ever work to replace the lock screen unless the phone is rooted...

Oooh, this would be great! This is my only peeve with the droid, how much it takes to pause/restart music. FYI, I found it on Amazon with free shipping. Comes out to half the total cost as buying it direct from seido.
