App or Hack to Map Soft Key to Sleep the Fascinate?

By sleep do you mean what the power button does?

Yes; I want to use a soft key instead of the power button, which is in an awkward place for the way I pick up and hold the phone.

I can live with it as it is (obviously, as I did purchase it knowing where the power button was ;)), but I'm trying for an ideal situation with it.

Yeah, I realized I was taking a chance with this query because it's unusual. ;)

I have arthritis in my right hand, and I'm left handed.. so this presents a slight problem with using that power button. If it were only for powering the device up and turning it off it would be much less of an issue.

I do have the sleep timer set to 30 seconds, so, again, it is not a huge issue at all, even when waking it up; I'd just rather be able to put it to sleep at will without the struggle with my right hand/thumb or the little momentary hassle of reaching behind or in front of the device with my left hand to press the button if my arthritis is acting up.

It ran ok for a few test cycles. Then I rebooted the device and the app ceased to function at all.

I de-installed the app, rebooted, re-installed it and no change.

Thank you for that heads up on that sort of application, though.. I've been searching in Market on "lock," "wake button," etc.. many apps around but they seem to disable all but the power key to bypass the lock screen, etc.

I'll keep looking around.

What you want is Widgetlocker, it worked wonders for my Droid Inc.

That's a nice one. Thank you.. I'm running it now..still exploring the menus for it; I love the root solution it offers for the time out.

This is great for the Fascinate because it allows use of any hardware key to wake it up; the volume up key is just right for that purpose for me.

I just wish there was a good on-screen widget for putting it to sleep; I still have to use the power button. I think that between Widgetlocker and another app for putting it to sleep I'll be good to go.

There is a on screen lock for widget locker. when you hold down on screen, select shortcut. all the way at the bottom there is widget locker lock now. it locks the screen back to the widget locker lock screen, and takes however long you have the time out set to go black. I use it all the time and works great!

Whoa.. now I'm all set.. (going through icon sets to come up with something that fits my home screen theme). ;)

Thank you so much, rlbloser and yankee boy.
