Anyone think I will like this phone? I like the design of it it is really sleek and slim. I have no problem at all using touch screens and keeping up with tech.

My mother does not like her Motorola Droid she says it is too complicated for her so we are selling it for $175 and I'm throwing in the rest of the money for us to upgrade to the Samsung Fascinate for $199.99 buy one get one free.

If I don't like it I'll always have my Motorola Droid still since I am not selling it *yet*.

Sounds like you will be fine but if you are doing the BOGA/BOGO thing your mom might have an issue. If she likes the Droids physical qwerty going pure touch is likely to be an adjustment period.

Get mom a $35 Samsung U340 flip phone off ebay like I did for wifey. She won't keep it charged and leaves it on the counter half the time (no biggie since it is dead anyway). Some folks really do not need a smartphone and all are complicated. One of my relatively young savy employees returned her smart phone b/c she needs a phone for calls and texting- for her, a smartphone is useless.

I am selling my Moto Droid and moving to the SF as soon as I am eligible in Nov- earlier if I sweet talk VZW as soon as 2.2 is on the SF

I am also on the verge on switching from from Droid 1 to the Fascinate, but still researching it. I find one thing that not many people mention as way better that the all Moto Droids is the default music player on the Samsung. I really wasn't happy with the Droid's default music app at all and it was almost a deal breaker at the time.

I saw it on the Droid 2 and it was the same, so I was really disappointed that they really didn't update it with 2.2 either. Apps also never did it for me as there was always some kind of bug with them reading album art (Cubed) and running in the background out of nowhere when I didnt even open it (TuneWiki). I saw a youtube video on the Samsung's music player and I really think it beats the Ipod music player. As far as specs are concerned it is as good if not better than many phones out there, including the DX, D2 and IPhone.

I personally dont like the DX's shape and size..I still kind of like the D2, but I already had the D1 and kind of want to have a different experience. I hardly text anyone at all and really more interested in the multi-media aspect of smart phones. Not that the Moto Droids do not have that, but just the Samsung Music player alone has me closer to getting a Samsung.

i own both the Droid1 and the Droid Incredible, got the wife the Fascinate...and I'm in smartphone envy....it is an incredible phone....all this talk about Bing is ridiculous, doesn't matter...download maps and use that...get launcher pro if you don't like touchwiz...yadda yadda...and remember, if you don't like it, you have 30 days!

That really good to hear, maybe you pull a switch on her :p

Yeah, I agree about Bing. I've read ranting against Bing being the search engine and I still don't understand the attachment to searching with Google only. You can use it in your browser and it's getting google search with the next update anyway. So that is non-factor to me.

I hear you, I just have never used Bing, so I guess it doesn't find things as good as Google? I look at it this way, at least when the update comes you will be able to choose between Bing and Google.. I just read that Bing moved ahead of Yahoo for search engines, but Google is wayyy ahead of all others, obviously. Also, yeah Vz adding their stuff to the phone is sneaky, but still doesn't bother me as I download so many apps anyway and don't use half of them regularly.

And you will notice the fascinate has a weaker signal than the Droid by a mile but will hopefully be updated with a baseband update.. crosses fingers..
It shows a weaker signal but don't let it trick you its been giving me better calls even in my home which was impossible to call or go on the internet with the droid.

I am having this same debate with myself. There is no one perfect android phone on verizon right now. The Fascinate with its 2.2 update (with everything it is rumored to bring/fix) make it the closest thing to perfect for me. DX and 2 have a butt ugly interface, I'm lukewarm about sense, plus the incredible and D2's screens are on the small side. I like the look and feel of TouchWiz, the screen is the perfect size (not too big or too small), and its got the best Processor of the bunch IMO.

Yeah at some point you just have to jump in the pool and get wet. People waiting for the 2.2 to hit the SF might be waiting months and by then the next new fancy phone will be out and then what? If the Froyo updates takes a long as many fear we could be right around the corner from the first gingerbread phone's release as well. Something "better" is always coming down the pike.

I decided to leave my D1 behind when I got my 5th refub replacement. Unfortunatly VZW was irratating to work with and didnt do ANYTHING to help me out! So I upgraded 2 other lines on my plan and got the BOGO. I decided to not go with the DX cause I am hoping that the quality is better and I will not go through so many CLNRs. I am VERY excited about the switch and hope that the SF stands up to my expectations :) I am sure it will!
