Accessories DroidX with Phantom Skinz Chromatics

There are other threads in the forums about this chromatics wrap by Phantom Skinz but I didn't see any pics specifically for the Dx yet so I thought some here may be interested. I'm not a big case guy because I don't like the bulk, but have dropped phones many times and skins seem to help. I considered some other types of skins like Gela skins but I saw these Phantom Chromatics talked about in a forum and decided to try the black carbon fiber ones on my Dx...

I'll spare you the install/unboxing details because you can search those on Youtube, etc. But I will say that they are nice texture, and minimal profile with no extra bulk so they still fit in all cradles, mounts, etc.

Install is easy and dry but you need to use blow dryer like they say or tabs on corners will pop up.

Free Shipping option was fast so no need to pay for expedited unless you want it overnight. I paid $20 to my door with 20% off through end of September and includes two free screen shields. I didn't use the screen shields because I already put the Zagg shield on but others say they're good. My thoughts on the Zagg shield are at the bottom of this post if you are interested

The only reason I wouldn't recommend these skins is if you are fond of the rubbery texture/feel of the stock Dx back and sides because these definately change that although it is still a nice rough texture with a good grippy feel. Here are some car mount pictures...

And another wide shot shows Dx mounted with all my other car gadgetry...

Here's one in the Moto home media dock...

Just noticed mine covers the front sides and moto and verizon front of phone

You mean your skin covers the Motorola and Verizon titles on the front of the phone? That is odd since those are both part of the front screen and the verizon logo is actually above the front buttons. The phantom skin only covers the casing parts of the Dx and not the screen at all.

Nice pics, gives a better idea of how they look compared to the retail images they show. Looks very slick. :)

I'm still torn between getting one of these, or just using the silicon case I have right now. (or the seidio one when its finally released)
This fitting in the dock(with the insert still in I assume?) is a big plus. I had to modify the doc slightly to get my silicon case to work. :(

That looks different with the verizon name covered up. I don't understand why they'd cover part of the screen with a skin.

For anyone wanting the phantomskinz, I used a promo code when I ordered mine. Promo code "summersale2010" gave me a 30% discount...which made the whole thing 20 bucks including shipping. Not sure if this promo is still active but worth a shot if anyone is interested

As I mentioned in my post above, the 30% off code is good through end of September (unless they extend it again).

Not digging the "Faux-Carbon Fiber" look...I hate to say it, but it makes the phone look chinsy (even more so in White).

Though I'm definitely digging the idea of skins over cases. I think I'm going to make my own via Gelaskins.

Yeah, I think it's a preference deal totally. But keep in mind that the phantom skin is not faux carbon fiber; it is a real metallic fiber texture and high quality build/feel. Their site says carbon/metallic particles are actually used in the manufacturing process. It may look 2D in the pictures, but this skin is dynamic and picks up light differently depending on angle. I have seen lots of faux carbon fiber skins like Verizon's Skinits and this is definitely not that. Do a YouTube search on it and watch the demo.

BTW, Gelaskins are really good too.

My initial reaction was the same as Jabba's, but now i'm intrigued.

You might be even more intrigued to know that I dropped the Dx as I was leaving truck this morning at which point it bounced off foot (perhaps saving grace) before taking tumble and skid on lot concrete. Result is wipe off dust to find no damage, scrapes or even scuffs on the phone (front or back).

To all those posting about which case is thinnest/best, doesn't add bulk or fits in your docks, you might want to consider this Zagg/Chromatics combo because they add minimal mass but are apparently tough and worked well to protect phone from casual drop damage. If you don't like the CF style I bought, they have other flavors that may be more to your liking.

Anyone else with Chromatics/Zagg drop your phone and have similar results?
