Hero, will I ever love you?

Her are just some of the confirmed issues that are still present even after the update:

Paint peels
Chrome mysteriously cracks
Screen Lag
Poor signal reported on some
70 App limit
Awful Battery Performance
Phone not ringing
Weather App Drain
Wrong time on HTC Widgets
etc, etc, etc

I want to like the Hero. I want to LOVE the Hero. Problem is I also just want a phone that just works.

My biggest bitch about the phone is definitely the battery. I am so used to my Q where I used it HEAVILLY on the net, Twitter app (yes updating all day at 5 minute intervals), Core Player Video, Audio, SMS, etc and still had a ton of battery time. Used Opera Mini before and the reason I used i was because it was fast. It's even slow on the Hero.

Yes. I can switch off everything and dumb down the phone, disable this, not use this. The point is I shouldn't have to.

Phone not ringing? Whole other mess entirely. No it's not the network, it's the phone. Changed my slot and I am chewing thru the battery. 20% in 1 hr 45 minutes today.

Problem is I am stuck. Don't think there's another phone out there with the capabilities or performance that I want with Sprint unless I go back to my Q. Don't know if an eventual OS update will fix some/any of these issues.

Anyway, pretty unproductive post I would guess but I just wanted to vent. I'm bummed.

I would put it on your driveway and run over it with your car. Assuming you have insurance on your phone and car, you should be able to get a Hero that is not possessed by the HTC Antichrist. You have had a lot of bad luck. 70 apps? really? I think this over installation of apps might have something to do with some the lag issues. You are obviously a power user and need more capacity than the phone was designed for. I think as we see a progression of the android OS and more refined drivers for hardware things will meet your expectations. Good luck, sorry about your troubles.

Anyway, pretty unproductive post...

I agree.

Especially since you are not only posting problems that you might have experienced, but rehashing stuff other have. i.e. "Poor signal reported on some" - Seriously? My brother in law was just bitching to me yesterday because his company ATT phone has crappy reception at his house. Is that ATT fault? Maybe he should move closer to a tower...

and "etc, etc, etc" - You have more?

I think maybe we need a single Sticky: thread where people can complain how a 1/2 inch thin minature computer/phone cannot handle more than 70 apps.

Oh, and I have never experienced any of these issue.

I don't blame you for complaining....as you can see I do love this phone, but it's actually the hardware that is giving me problems. I'm now staring at another dead pixel on my screen, I can live with a dust particle or 10, but dead pixels are past my threshold

So what good is coming from the constant complaining on this forum? Why not go to Sprint or HTC about these issues. Why do we need to rehash the samething over and over again. If the phone is so bad, get rid of it!

What is the OP looking for? He did not have a question and apparently brings up problems he is not even having? To what end?

Actually only have about 4 of those issues so far, but I have had the phone for a week.

Like I said, I want to like the phone, just want to see it do as well as my 2 year old phone.

Just kinda venting about it and fishing for opinions on whether these things will improve, (not cosmetics of course) over time.

And Zombie Scott, this here is a discussion forum. De skush en. I run one of my own. You can't have a discussion when everyone blows sunshine all the time. 0 valid lmao.

I have seen the fixes for some of these issues and have tried most. That is why I didn't ask for specific answers. I actually use the Search button ;)

It's a Sprint HTC Hero forum and he is sharing his experience, whether it is a good or bad review is not the point. I just take most of these reviews with a grain of salt and move on, but I do not blame the user for expressing his opinion. Most people are not aware of how to "tweak" a phone to optimize performance and I don't recall ever hearing about salesman warning potential buyers about the possibility of having to tweak it. Some people are simply dissapointed, can you honestly blame them? Like I said, I have zero software problems, but the hardware issues do get frustrating.

I'm sorry, not to be mean, but you really need to look at what you type. Your post is impossible to read. Yet in other posts, you type perfectly fine.

A sticky or a rant/vent thread isn't a bad idea. I personally do not vent or rant for any type of response its just to let it all out. when I have an actual question question ill post in an exist6ing thread or start a new one. One thing i dont get is WHY people are responding to the thread if they dont like what he has to say. It doesn't take a genius to look at the title of the thread and realize it is just a person venting his frustrations so if you ignore it the thread will be on page 3 in a few hours but you guys persist on bashing the guy for doing what we all do in one way or another either on the computer or to someone close to us. maybe the guy is a single lonely man and has no one to talk to and this is his way of letting it all out. I would rather him get it out this way rather than showing up at work one day with an ak47 and venting his frustration by letting off a few rounds.

I'm just sick and tired of correcting the inaccuracy and correcting the "corrections" my Hero makes when using it to post to a forum. For a week or so I would only browse with it and refused to post because it was so terrible and took forever to get a post completed. If I don't have spell check, prediction, and auto correction on it only lags bad, but the mistakes are horrible. If I turn those on, the lag is horrible and the mistakes are only bad. Either way sucks.

But I finally came to peace with the Hero, at least on this forum. This is a Hero discussion forum. I'm just going to type what I want to say, and post what the phone produces. If you guys have a problem with that, blame the phone and not me. After all, you all have the same phone so you should be more adept at interpreting the garbage that the keyboard produces than the average human.

When my posts are less error ridden, like this one, it is because I am browsing/posting from my desktop at home. I try to use it to make most of my posts, or at least did previously. The exception is a single post I made this afternoon to a developer trying to create a truly needed app for the phone so that it becomes closer to a decent phone. I made that post from my phone, and it took fooooorever to complete... but I thought it would be nice to correct it since he is trying to do something to help all of us.

sounds like you have a problem with the way your hero's interpreting your typing. Your keyboard probably needs to be calibrated, and your dictionary re-done. I haven't had a single problem with typing on my hero. In fact, the spell-check/auto-complete are amazing for me, very rarely does it suggest the wrong word.

Holy crap that's funny. I just made it a point to re read your first post. I turned off all the keyboard suggestions and vibrations and added the clicking noise. Minor annoyance for me, but I figure I am coming from a regular keyboard so it'll take some time to get used to. Don't have lag, just cautious/slow typing.

I woke up at 9:30 today, checked my emails, a voicemail, did my normal web browsing while I smoked and had coffee. Couple phone calls, texts messages - updating calendars and tasks. Went to pick up a truck and used google maps for a moment to find an address. Came home and started to clean the garage out and decided that I wanted to listen to some podcasts. I got my mini speakers out and attached them to my Hero. The third hour of This American Life is just finishing now as I am upstairs typing this.

6 green bars of battery left. No complaints of poor battery life here.

I've calibrated and recalibrated. Reset, tried that, then recalibrated again. Swapped back and forth from stock to Better Keyboard. The correction and prediction would be great, except that the input generates so many mistakes that it often guesses the wrong word or doesn't even give me the option of the word I was trying to type, so I have to back up and try again. If I don't, then there is a correctly spelled incorrect word, which makes it even more impossible for people to interpret than just horrible misspellings. Very frustrating.

The input on the Hero is just horrible, horrible, horrible. The more I use it, the more horrible it becomes. The more I compare it to a proper touchscreen keyboard, the more horrible it becomes. It's atrocious. It lags so bad that if I turn off all the features (prediction, autocorrection, vibration, sound) I'm still a word ahead of what it puts on screen, and I'm no speed demon. It consistently things I want the letter below then one I really want, even after multiple calibrations, some intentionally hitting higher trying to bias it upwards. No luck. And it often gives me the letter to the side of what I want too. My hands aren't huge and my fingers are slim. I didn't have this problem AT ALL on another phone.

And it's worse in landscape mode than portrait. WTF?
