Just wondering if you have Lookout Antivirus?

I have tried to max out my 2gb data usage and I am finding it hard for me. Still haven't yet. I must not be a heavy user like some of you others are. However many of the places I go to (restaurants, malls, home, friend's houses) all have wifi that I can log on to. I even did some fantasy football tracking yesterday with my laptop connect via wifi through the google wireless tether app. I tracked for about 45 mintues and only used 20 mb.

I don't stream video that often, but... if they ever get that hacked verizon nfl mobile app to work on 3g for the captivate I may run into problems. I used that app yesterday on wifi for a little bit and it was amazing. Pretty nuts that the xda guys are able to hack that paid app and get free NFL redzone on your phone! Really nice to have.

3g watchdog works properly if...

a) you correctly set it up to match your AT&T billing date
b) you aren't messing around in 3g when the program is off/not installed (say, after installing a new ROM).

I know mine is off because of B, but my billing date is Wednesday, so that'll start it fresh again.

I disagree. I have followed those rules and it's not accurate. I've used it for a month and a week and after the whole month of using it, it was off by 30MB. I used 45MB and it said 15MB. For the next week, according to AT&T, I've used 8MB, yet watchdog says 4MB.

I agree that 3G Watchdog is not very accurate. It currently has me at 30MB for the period while AT&T has me at 50MB. I actually caught it not working recently. I had been at home all day on wifi, so watchdog was correctly reporting my 3G usage at 0. I went out, and while I was out I did a little web surfing and played Pandora for about 10 minutes. When I checked the watchdog later that afternoon, it still said 0. I know I was not on someone's wifi or anything, I never connected it. So 3G Watchdog is better than nothing, but it reads low.

I ahve been runnning Watchdog for 5 weeks. I bounce its numbers off AT&T about every other day. It has always been within a few bytes of the other. I am wondering if it is not the setup that is jynxing people. It did take me a few days of trial and error to get the settings so WD matched up with AT&T. The morning is when I check, before I turn my 3G back on as AT&T usually adds the data count sometime during the night.
FYI, I am running SMODA for the 3G on/off.

I'm open to suggestions. What settings specifically did you adjust?

I started in the middle of a billing cycle so I messed with the quota counters. In hind sight, I think it would be best if you have the 3G off and set the counters to zero on the first day of the cycle. If you are not running a app similar to SMODA, i would think the only way to get it synched up would be at midight of the day starting your cycle.

I think once it's synched well, it stays spot on.

Rather than 3G Watchdog, I'd like to know what app used all your bandwidth.

I just checked my settings and during the past billing cycle, watchdog reset the exact day that AT&T reset, so that's not the problem. Then I figured I'd do some more investigating and looked at the daily log in watchdog and compare it to the daily data usage log in my AT&T account online. They are off. One day, AT&T shows like 3MB and watchdog shows 900KB. Another day, AT&T shows like 800KB and watchdog shows 0 for that same day.

BTW, my phone is not rooted or hacked in any way.

It may be something leaking that WD doesn't detect. Strange. Mine is rooted and unlocked, but I don't think that would change anything for what we are talking about.

I recommend using the "AT&T Mywireless" app.

it can be found in the AT&T section of the market place. It allows you to see all your usage:

Data, minutes, texts... I use it to show customers that 2gb data is more than enough for the average - high data user (obviously not enough for the data abuser haha)

the app does not warn you or anything, but if you remember to check it once in a while, it will give you an idea where you stand with data/billing cycle.

I think this is the only AT&T App I've got left on my phone, and I do use it for watching all the phones on the family plan.

I'd like to know why everyone thinks AT&T is right? I don't trust them at all with this data thing. I have found 3G watchdog to be pretty accurate of my usage...at least in terms of it registering when I use data over 3G. I've also monitored what AT&T records and because they don't report usage as it's used it's difficult to track.

Point on. The bad thing about that is how to prove yourself right and AT&T wrong. I'm waiting for the nation wide wifi to kick in. :D
