Hi I was wondering if anyone was familiar with this topic and if it would be possible on the droid... i know that the palm pre uses this and i think it may have something to do with magnets... but im not sure. I think that wireless charging on the Droid would be awesome and if anyone who knows about this charging method could say if it would be possible or not, i would greatly appreciate it. thanks

I don't get the whole point of inductive charging you've still got to have the bloody mat there and there is a cable run to the mat... I've got 3 or 4 places around the house with a micro usb charger and one in the car and 2 at my office. I find that much more convenient than being married to the location where the mat is placed.

As far as charging time if its done right it should be able to be fairly quick. We're doing some inductive power for some of the products that I work on. Essentially the whole table top is made an inductive power and you can then place our product anywhere on the top of the table and poof as soon as its w/in an inch or two of the table poof it powers up and starts working. Unfortunately I can't be any more detailed than that...

I can state that we're seeing about 85+% efficiency. Which isn't much worse than some of the power bricks I've seen out there...

Ya I don't think I'd get the powermat if i had to use that stupid adapter... but if i could just set my droid on top of it without any adapters or cases it might be worth it just like you can set the pre on the touchstone without any special attachments. Is that possible? And the stuff that bthoward was talking about with the tables.... thats gonna be awesome, but it probably wont be widespread in the near future.

Nope not possible w/ the Droid. It doesn't have the necessary electronics built-in (the Pre does). I could see more devices in the future having that tech built in, tho. And I'd love to have my counter tops, coffee table, and center console in my truck be inductive chargers.

The Pre does, if you buy the touchstone thingy, it comes with a replacement battery cover that has the coil built in. Straight from the factory it won't either.
