Help blocking adult content

Does anyone know of an app or service that will help with blocking adult content? Way too easy for the kids to stumble into something they shouldnt. I'm on a Samsung Moment.

If they are "Stumbling" across things that easily, then it sounds like you are actually storing the content on your phone... though I could be wrong. But if you are, I have seen an app in the market that hides your personal adult content somehow. I don't know what it's called or how it does it, but try searching "adult" in the market.

No, I am not storing any content of the like on my phone. I just know that its far to easily accessible (on a computer or one of these devices) that with a few clicks they could be into something they shouldnt be. I'm coming at it from the angle of trying to protect them from what I can while knowing...also realizing I cant keep them from everything. My old phone (Samsung i760) had the ability, dont see it on this one though.

if you edit your "hosts" file /system/etc/hosts, you can use that to block access to any websites... i'm sure you can get a list from one of the other databases... it uses the same concept as this:

i'm sure you can find a list of addresses that you'd want to block online... but it'll be a continual process because there are thousands of sites you'd want to add to it and continually update... but it's a start...

not sure about apps, haven't done any searching on that.

I would like to know this as well - just going through the apps on the EVO there are way too many things that are free and readily available and my 16 year old wants one of these phones.

if they are under 10 or 12 i dont see why they need to be touching it in the first place. 12 to 16... dont let them have a phone that has web content... after 16.... maybe its not so bad that they know what a pair of boobs looks like....

A kid in my 8yr olds 3rd grade class just got an iPhone4. Now that's good parenting! After every kid in the grade came home demanding one, the school called in the parents for a conference and banned cell phones in the classroom. My reply to my son asking for a phone? My 8 yr old has a prepaid net 10 her mom got her to all her on. No web or anything else. I refused to pay for her to talk on my phone when she can't even pay child support.

Man, I didn't get my first cell phone until I was 19 and in college...lol.

I had no plans to get my youngest a cell phone until she was 16. That's when my oldest got it and what I felt comfortable with.

The wife and I split last year so now my 10 year old has to have a cell phone for me to feel safe leaving her with her mom on the weekends. Luckily she's pretty mature for her age and talks to me about everything. I'm the one who had to teach her what girls go through, etc.

I'm not a big proponent of giving kids phones until you can trust them to make good decisions (15/16 for me, YMMV), but this was a bit different.

As far as blocking content, are you talking about apps downloaded from the Market, Internet sites, files on computer transferring to the phone, etc.? There are a LOT of ways to get porn on the phone.

I am very interested in this subject now. I have given my son a cell phone for the past 3 years (he is 11 now, and he has been taking extremely good care of the current phone for the past year) and this Christmas I will be giving him my old Samsung Moment (Actually, it's basically brand new b/c it's a refurb). So I gotta know how to lock down the content on this thing... I know I could root and possibly remove the browser (Is this possible?), but I would prefer not to do that.

sure you can. but then you ahve do delete the market as well. oh and the usb access to stop him from mounting and shoving apk's for whatever he wants on it. better yet, why not just NOT have a data plan on it....

Why worry about the market? That's not a big deal.
Why worry about the USB access? That would indicate that he's on a computer with limitless access anyways.

Nah, I'd rather just stick with the browser.

Yes. Download the application, "My Market." It will allow you to create custom filters, so you will be able to block any inappropriate content in the app store.

I realize this thread is over 2 years old but I wanted to provide some helpful feedback to anyone who happens to stumble upon this and be seeking the same info. From your app store search "kid launcher" or "paretal control". We use app called kid mode for the younger one. Yes they are in the room with me when they use the device. But kids are kids and like to click things even when they don't know what it is. My device is rooted and I don't need them messing things up for me while I pull dinner from the oven. This works great by only letting them access apps I say ok to. There is also maxthons kid browser and many other kid browsers that can be added and used with kid mode. It is really simple. Do you want your kid accidently factory resetting your phone? Then block what they can access and do. I even saw safe text apps that will blind copy text message to the phone or email of a parent also. This is something I want for my older child as soon as I feel texting is an option for him. Hope this helps someone alot more than all the don't give them the phone answers I saw floating around. Sure that is an option. But then they just go next door and use "Joes" unlocked phone or tablet. You decide.

I'd say to put a Pin or password on your device. I don't know of any apps that do this really. Only thing I can suggest.

I'd also go the way to either lock the phone or monitor them while they play the phone and make sure that they do not just somehow click.
