Root One Step Closer to AOSP

yeah im very curious to see how obsidian turns out. it was my understanding with the bootloader locked (for the moment anyway) that a true asop rom was not possible because a motorolla signature was required to boot it, and you had to leave too much of the current build in place to truly build from source. Who knows I could be way off on that.

Either way, it looks good so far and hopefully comes closer to unleashing the real potential of this phone.

That's why I think they got around the bootloader. There's a way, supposedly, to get the X into engineering mode and that unlocks the bootloader, or at the very least lets you boot a customer kernel.

Judging by the fact that the Obsidian settings were on the settings menu, it looks like they might have done it.

Like I said, I'm cautiously optimistic. If we have true, vanilla android, Obsidian, and possibly CM, I'll be in heaven.

D13 - you are correct, I believe. Judging from some tweets last night, though, it's possible they "tickled" the NVRAM the right way and got around Moto's encryption.

I'm just speculating though. I'll hold any further comment until the ROM is released. I'm just excited, I couldn't wait to post that. :D

yeah... I am super excited...follow nenolod if you are not already

This seems exciting but I'd like to know why...

What are the specific benefits of a "true AOSP" rom over the roms we've seen to date?

Are we most interested in over/underclocking ability? Is there something I'm missing?

You can completely remove BLUR and other things running on the phone that, if you attempt to remove them in current ROMS on the X, it will result in the phone not working.

thanks d13. how soon do you think this will come out for us?

and i read we still dont have access to its kernel?? im confused because i thought there was a way around" everything". either way, i would love to have vanilla on my x man.

if we can put the bootloader in engineering mode then we can do anything...including access to the kernel

I have been waiting to purchase the Droid X to see if a true vanilla android rom would appear. It looks like my patience will be paid off. I am getting sick of my old school LG flip phone.

I say do it. Its a great phone. I am not going to lie though.. I had my doubts for a while but zi couldn't be any more grateful for Obsidian to come out.
