3 UK froyo update

I'm on 3, so far nothing... looking into rooting it and manually updating to 2.2 because I keep running out of space...

If you have an unbranded 3 phone. There is no need to root to get the 2.2 update.
I followed the instructions here Manually install the official Froyo build on HTC Desire | Geekword
and it worked a treat.

I then got the 2.10.405.8 update OTA.

You should also follow the instructions in the thread here http://androidforums.com/desire-tips-tricks/160560-force-apps-install-sd-without-root.html
to ensure you get the most out of storing apps on the SD card.

Cheers

I got my Desire from 3 several months ago and thankfully it was unbranded, they brand them now, then I received HTC's unbranded 2.2 OTA update when that was released around the end of July, then last weekend I received the latest HTC unbranded 2.2 OTA minor update (2.10.405.2).

I have still not received notification of a 2.2 update yet either. I have an unbranded 3 device bought in a 3Store. Everytime I check for an update I just get the old 2.1 update to version 1.21.405.2.

The phone has no 3 branding and no 3 bloatware loaded.
I though that 1.21.405.2 was 2.2? If its already running 2.1 then it wont offer to reinstall it again.

I also have a 3 unbranded desire and got 2.2 ages ago. Have you applied the update that is being offered?

No, I have not installed the offered update as I thought I may as well wait for 2.2 instead as it was advertised as coming shortly back then. I thought the update offered was just an update to 2.1??

Will have to find a decent back up program and then run the update and see what happens, I suppose. Bit nervous as I love this phone.

For the few months I had Eclair on my unbranded 3 Desire I only recieved one OTA update, a minor 2.1 update, before HTC released their unbranded 2.2 software. I had to get a replacement Desire the same week I received the 2.1 minor update on my old one and the new one came with this update already installed.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is being that you've got an unbranded 3 Desire already, which is running the latest software I had with 2.1, I think the update you're receiving is HTC's 2.2 software.

I have just pulled this comment from the 3 blog, it looks like we are not getting it just yet. They are obviously pumping it full of 3 goodness (bloatware) before we get it.

Froyo 2.2 has been through our testing and weve approved it internally. It took a little longer than expxected as we found a bug with twitter which needed to be fixed, its now working. Were now waiting for it to go live on the OTA server, but to manage expectations this may take up to two weeks. We really hope its quicker than this but cant guarentee it.

I have held back from Rooting and installing a Custom Rom on my phone but I think this is the push to make me do it.

What customisation/branding have 3 put on the Desire as I have an unbranded desire from 3 and 2.2 was offered shortly after it was released.

Do 3 have their own Twitter app installed or something similar as it sounds unusual for them to find something that other manufacturers havent picked up on a base app?
