Help Custom Notification ringtones

i cant figure how to put assign custom notification ringtones on my samsung moment. i have the ringtones in a folder on the sd card and i was able to play them thru the music app and assign the one i wanted for the ringer but i cant get the one i want for sms to work. i have had my moment for less then 2 days (and charged it six times) and i tried searching but came up with nothing. any help would be awesome

I've got my SD card set up using Zippy's example http://androidforums.com/133757-post58.html but I cannot select Notifications or Alarms using the stock (or TuneWiki) player. I want to choose a different notification sound or alarm, but it will not let me go to the SD card, it only will choose the stock sounds. I was able to choose a mp3 (stored in the ringtones folder) by using the stock player to work, but not from the Settings|Sound and Display menu.

Additionally, I have a voice app loaded and the stock mp3 player finds the voice recordings (really annoying when I'm randomly playing). Is there a way to force it to only see the folder Music?

Any suggestions?

Make sure you UNMOUNT the SDCard before trying to pick a downloaded ringtone. Can't help too much on the voice app. The problem with the Moment is lack of specific documentation explaining what default folders should be and where (plus not having them in there natively either). 3rd party apps also follow no regiment for structure, and can be all over the place. Then you get confusing lists of sound files and such when the folders are scanned and indexed. Can be a real pain with multiple apps.

Got an update of my voice recorder app and surprise there is a new selection in settings to hide from MP3 players, so that is fixed.

you don't actually have to create the "media" folder. You can just create the "notifications", "alarms", and "ringtones" folder on the root drive and it works just fine.

My primary problem is fixed , I used ringdroid and was able to select which notification I wanted from the folder. Unfortunately I am unable to keep those notifications from being seen by the stock MP3 player.

Of course you can.
Go to your e-mail's menu option, set the notification from there.
Go to your basic notification ringtone in the phone options, set that one (for hooking up the USB and other generic stuff) there.
Go to your missed call options... I think you can set a different one there?
You get the idea. When setting the notification ringtones, you set them within the specific app (or specific email account) menu. Hope that helps

If you want individual ringtones for different SMS senders, download Handcent SMS from the Android Market. It's free, and will do exactly that. I am using it myself, for that specific purpose (although the app has a lot of other nice features).

Without it, you can only choose a single tone for all messages received.

Wow does it really need to have access to all of those options? There wouldn't be a problem with downloading it right, its safe? It seems to have full access to all of the functions on the phone.

A quick rundown:

Plug your phone into your computer via the USB cable and select mount when the notification bar tells you you're connected to USB. You should now be able to browse the phone in My Computer (should show as Removable Disk). Create a folder named "notifications" at the root level of the card. Drag/copy any notification sound files you want to use into that folder. Unmount the phone You can also create separate folders for "alarms" and for "ringtones". I've also created a folder called "music", and the phone will play any mp3 file in that folder, ignoring the other folders like "ringtones".

For phone's ringtone:
Home Screen - Menu - Settings - Phone ringtone

For other apps:
Messaging - Menu - Settings - Select ringtone
Gmail - Menu - Settings - Select ringtone
Email - select your account (I have Hotmail and Yahoo!, you may not have to select if you have only one) - Menu - Account settings - Select ringtone
Moxier Mail - Menu - Settings - Select ringtone
Voicemail - Menu - Settings - Notifications - Select ringtone



As for downloading ringtones, I've used myxer.com before. You can go directly there via your phone, but anything you download will wind up in "DRM Protected Content Storage" and you will need to completely clear that out to delete just a single file. It's better to download ringtones to your computer and then transfer them to your phone's "ringtones" folder via usb.

If you already have a song you want to use on your computer, edit it there and then transfer via usb. I use audacity for editting, but I'm sure there are other programs available. There is also an app in the Market called Ringdroid that does the same thing on your phone.

ANYONE know how to set a ringtones that u sync from your computer to your phone as notification tone alert?!?!?!?!? and how to not make the phone sound off when u charge it and unplug it.....oh And one last thing when u get a text message how do u quickly stop the alert with out dragging down the toolbar THOSE THINGS ARE DRIVING ME CRAZY?!?!?! make me wanna get rid of this stupid phone!!!!!

As far as setting notification ringtones you have to create folders on your sd card. I have a folder called media, and inside that I have separate folders labeled "ringtones", "notifications", and "alarms".

As for sound when plugging in you have to go to settings--sound & display--notification ringtone. Put this on silent. For your text message, email, voicemail alerts you set up your ringtones from within the app settings.

Lastly, for the muting the notification alert without dragging the notification bar down there isn't really a way. If your using handcent you can enable pop ups and the sceen will turn on and you can hold the volume button down and it will quite quickly. Just remeber to turn volume back up as this silents everything. That was my big search when I got my phone back in November too. I liked long text message ringtones also but I needed a way to mute it fast like my old phone where I could just reach in my pocket and hit volume down but there was no way so I gave up and just put a stock short ringtone.

Well, I made the necessary folders, unmounted sd card and unfortunately I still can't make it work. If I don't unmount I can view the folders but nothing in the folders on the "fileviewer". If I do unmount the sd card then it says it can't read the card. There must be something I'm missing but for the life of me I can't figure it out. Help please!
