Big Red Sending Over D2

My D1 starting wigging out on me and I have the warranty so they sent me another D1. About four days later the "like-new" D1 (more accurate term would be like-crap) started doing the same thing. Spent 25min on the phone with an associate and then asked for a manager. Spent 2min with him and should have a D2 today! Moral of the story, go straight to the top. I honestly can't wait to root this bad boy.

So sorry for your loss. The D1 was/is still the only Android to have on the VZW network. The D2 is fail with the locked bootloader and VZW/Motorola bloatware. Are you sure that the D1 that you had didn't "wig out" on you because of a faulty app? Hard to believe that two phones wigged out on you in the same way.

D2 is getting to be a little more attractive. There's a ROM of sorts available for it that removes most (if not all) of the BLUR-bloat, and custom ROMs and themes are working. Of course, overclocking is not available, but root is, and the speed of it should be sufficient without bumping the processor clock up. I'm sure he'll be all right with it, though I personally will stick with the D1 as long as possible.

if an app stops your phone from turning on then I guess that would be the case. and no it's not the battery. Don't get me wrong I love the D1 but it's time to move on.

Download all the same apps and come back here and let us know if it shuts down the D2 as well. Would be good to hear some follow-up. It just sounds odd that two D1s having the same issue.

Don't settle for a D2 and its crappy custom UI. Ask for a Droid X (unless you just absolutely cannot live without a physical keyboard - though honestly the size of the Droid X makes it a lot easier to use virtual)

NO D2 or X for me. If vzw refuses to put out a "Google Experience/Dev" vanilla Android phone I am leaving vzw. I absolutely hate anything else [e.g. sense and blur]. The D1 is such a pleasure to own. It's clean and easy to mod. I am also sure the new "Verizon" app store is going to remove apps like wireless tether and awesome apps like that.. VZW are gonna **** it UP.. So I anticipate a move to something or somewhere else. I seriously would have kept getting the D1 until I got a "good" one.. Even if a castrated Verizon App Store completely replaces the android market and removes such apps as listed, you can still find them elsewhere.

As for replacing my D1, no thanks. I like having my extremely well built, solid phone that is completely open for me to do whatever I want with. Sure it would be nice to have the larger screen of the X as well as it's HDMI, but it's not something that's making me race to the store to replace what I have.

As long as my phone doesn't develop some mysterious hardware issue within the next year (knock on wood), I can easily see me holding onto it until my contract runs up, or possibly even longer. It's already more phone than I really need, and it has not given me a single issue since I bought it last december.

I have a D1 as well, but the speaker in the earpiece blew.
So now I can't hear anyone on the phone and must use speaker phone.
VZW has sent me 4 refurbs, all garbage sadly until today the guy said he could send me a NIB X.
I was very reluctant, because I really love my D1, and am not sure if I want to give it up. I'm in a tough spot, because all I really want is a working D1, but it seems impossible for some reason. Now I have to find something to do with my desk dock, car dock, and game gripper...UGH!
I really wanted to keep this Droid for the entire contract, and would have loved to.

Should I go through with the X, or try to eventually finally get a refurbed D1?

If you are adamant about wanting another Droid1, get the X then sell it on ebay or craigslist. They are going for around $350-450 here locally, and around $400-600 on ebay. You could then buy a working used Droid off either site for around $140-180 and have a nice chunk of change left over.

I've thought about doing this myself, complaining about an issue with my droid to see if I got a X I could sell, but sadly I'm too honest of a person..

I can see how that could be a good idea, but for some reason it sketches me out a little bit. Not craigslist so much as Ebay, it just makes me paranoid not knowing exactly what Ill be getting. I might have to do that if the X doesnt work out for me

Got the D2 yesterday and have been playing around with it. I will have to say that I loved how clean the D1 was but this phone is nasty fast. For what it is I like it a lot. I didn't go crazy with the endless possibilities that you can use a Droid for on my D1, so the customization aspect isn't that big of a deal, but for me is still very customizable. The D2 is very cluttered and that makes me want to root it but we'll see. I have all the same apps and the phone hasn't crashed. I suppose that remains to be seen. As of now I am very happy with the D2. I like some of the Moto widgets and other add-ons, but like i said it is very cluttered. For every good one there are probably to or three worthless ones but i have been able to clean it up a bit. Like I said loved my D1 but I figured I would try something new and it I can't say that I'm disappointed.
Pros- Wicked nasty super fast, way better keyboard, some widgets, new design
Cons- Very cluttered, crap apps, crap widgets, all these= Wasted space

I got my NIB D2 yesterday as well (came from D1) I LOVE this phone! I agree with everything you said above. I deleted most of the widgets from my home screen trying to conserve the battery. I am not disappointed at all. My D1 wasn't rooted so I am sure it would of been way better if it was, but with the D2 I will never look back

I think the D2 is nice from a hardware perspective. The keyboard is much nicer (and I've always thought the D1 keyboard was nice), it has lots more memory and is twice as fast as the D1.

I'd have a hard time replacing my D1 with a D2 or DX until I can install CyanogenMod on it as easily as I can with my D1

I've actually considered having my D1 replaced due to the headphone jack getting worse over time, but I'm concerned that I'll have to deal with a series of junk refurbed D1s. I think I'll just deal with it and wait. I'd probably just want the HTC Incredible due to ease or rooting & custom roms on.

My first D2 refurb was wonderful for two weeks. I honestly seemed like a brand new phone. It has a bad lag that was there from day one, and I tried everything to get it to go away. Some others on the forum reported it to be normal while others said it wasn't. Then one day the phone started freezing up. A battery pull would not solve it so I had to do factory resets. I did three resets in 2 days then the music files and ringtones stopped working and the camera wouldn't open. That is when I called VZW and got a supervisor involved and ended up getting a NIB D2. I wish you luck! Give it a ride for a few weeks, use everything possible on it (camera, video, music, etc) and make sure it all functions.

Yeah, I've been going over it with a fine tooth comb. I have all my accounts up and running while syncing, I have 3 emails accounts, facebook, twitter, weather, google voice all up and running. I also have my homescreen setup the way I want it. So, I'm using it like I would normally, to get the best testing out of it I can. We'll see how it goes.
