Memory card is full and phone storage is completely empty, apparently...

1) how do I know where and what apps are on the card or phone?

2)How to save things like apps, pics, etc, to the phone, instead of to the card..Is this even recommended?

2) Once I use a new memory card, will the phone and my apps function properly?

1) If you go under Menu>Settings>SD And Phone Storage you see you have SD Card, Internal Phone Storage, and Phone Memory. All your apps should be under your phone memory unless you moved them to your card. If the app needs it it will create a folder on your card but i don't believe the actual app is stored there.

2) To save pics to your internal phone memory go under camera settings>Storage and you can choose to save to card or phone storage. If you have pics on the card already and you want to move them you can just move your dcim folder to internal phone storage. I don't think you can move app to internal storage though.

3) Im not quite sure on this one but if the app created a folder on your card it probably could cause some trouble for you if you put a new card in and the folder isnt on it.

Thanks!! I see this screen but it just gives me the what's available and used on each, NOT what's actually on each..Is there a way to find this out?

[/QUOTE] Gotcha..Thanks..I knew about moving the pics but not about the apps. So I can't store an app on my Internal storage? What's the difference between PHONE MEMORY and INTERNAL PHONE STORAGE??

Some of these questions are bc I keep getting error messages when trying to download new apps and save pics from mms or email messages. So trying to figure out what to do..

THanks for your help !!

Internal storage is for your multimedia files such as pictures and music. The phone memory is for apps. So the only place you can store apps is either phone memory or your sd card. I'm not sure why they did it this way but they did.

If you don't have astro download it from the market that will show you whats on your phone. The emmc folder is your internal phone storage. Since all that's on phone memory is apps you can check that through Menu>Settings>Applications>Manage Applications. What kind of error messages are you getting?

If your card is truly that full, I'd pare down the files or get a larger card. You can copy the files from this card onto your desktop, then place them on the new larger card for a seamless transfer + additional space. You rooted or not?
Cool advice..Nope, not rooted. But any ideas on how I can download, let's see the gmail update, before getting a card?? I mean, why is it even putting it on the card and not the phone storage or memory??

Not quite understanding how you'd have a bunch of apps on your SD card right now. What you need is a file manager so you can browse both the phone's internal storage and the SD card and see what's up. For non-rooted users, I like Linda File Manager (free in market). Easy to use and allows access to the internal storage including the system folder. Just be exceedingly careful not to alter any files in there.

Then report back with what you're seeing in each location.

I use Astro I go to the "emmc" and i there's a bunch of stuff but none of it are the apps, apparently..At least it doesn't look like it. I do have pics in there. On the "SD card" there's a bunch of stuff on there too. I just HATE how it's all laid out, too confusing.

How can I tell if it's the actual APPLICATION?? Like I have a "HANDCENT" folder on my sd card but it looks like it's just the download folder.

Apps have an .apk file associated with them. Some apps will have folders in the card which they may or may not reference. If you have all your apps on the card, that would be odd. Did you possibly back up a bunch of apps to the card using Astro or another program? The emmc thing is ok, that's where media gets stored, pics and so forth.

No, I don't think I have ANY apps on the card. My problem is that I'm getting an error message when I try to download new apps or updates from the market, saying that I don't have enough space. The only thing I know is full is my card. The phone storage from menu--settings--etc, shows that my phone storage is almost EMPTY, so not sure why this is happening..
