Yes, I had the same problem, I noticed it doesn't happen regularly. After the latest HTC firmware update early this month the service became better. Also, I sometimes use a different Youtube viewer like xscope browser, it plays Youtube videos like a charm, give it a try.

Expatblade - do you have the same problem over 3G as well as over WiFi?
I only ask because I also get the same error you are describing all the time when trying to access youtube videos via WiFi (although a second attempt usually works ok), however over 3G they always play ok?

Anyone know why or know a way to fix this? Incidentally, I'm using an unbranded Desire with 2.2 on (on Orange network) - it's been factory restored a few times and I still get this issue.

Same problem here with the Youtube app. 90% of the time, if I keep trying 3-4 times, the video will start playing just fine. But if I then try to skip ahead, the error once again pops up.

It happens both over WiFi and 3G. It's not a network problem, because I get about 8.5Mb/s over WiFi and 2.5Mb/s over 3G which should be enough. I don't have any problems with dropped connections in other apps. Also the resolution and quality of the video doesn't seem to matter.

I don't think the phone had this problem when it was new, it was probably introduced with some OTA update (there have been 2 or 3 since I got the phone). Alternatively, maybe some App broke Youtube?

I also tried the newer Youtube app from the market but it has the same problem.

It's really annoying and it's making it impossible to enjoy Youtube video on the phone.

Has anybody found any solution of this problem ?
On my Desire it IS somehow related to the network type, I never have such problems on WiFi, only on 3g.
Hello All,

The reason we cannot play youtube videos by default on Android 2.2 is, it doesn't have flash support. So just go to market and install Adobe Flash Player from Apps - Tools - Top Free. This gives your device the ability to play .flv files. Most of the youtube files are .flv, so this should work. It worked for me.

Thanks & Regards

Have you read my original question ?

On my Desire it IS somehow related to the network type, I never have such problems on WiFi, only on 3g.

I can play Youtube videos when I connect to the Internet with WiFi, I cannot, when I work on 3g. How can this problem be related to the flash player ?? Also, my Desire supports Flash by default.

I get the same problem, both over wifi and 3g. Same as other people it only happens intermittently and if you keep trying to reload it can work. Other times it will stop in the middle of a vid that is playing fine with this error message.

Re Sam's post above, i thought that Froyo brought Flash 10.1 to the Desire, when i download from the market, it only says to update not install so implies its already is some form.
Have tried youtube with and without the latest flash update and the problem still occurs.

Hi, I found the solution if you cannot access to youtube using mobile data or 3G. Simple go to your setting and under wireless & networks go to more option and then data usage and then select the sim which you are using to access internet and scroll down untill you find google play services and then tick off the ristrict background data mode and then try again to access youtube and it works fine.
