***Official Samsung Fascinate 2.2 Speculation Thread***

Not open for further replies.
Hey guys, i know there are a lot of threads out there for 2.2 but they don't seem to be very specific, just random news and stuff, but i was hoping we can post any rumors, speculation and info we get here, that way it could be more cohesive...

On the bright side: Can someone translate this,

samsung-spain-galaxy-update-oct.jpg

Might be good news right....Engadget already posted it, but i just was wondering if someone could translate since they didn't. Late october is not that bad, i hope you guys agree...

Thats not late October for the Fascinate though. We'll be weeks behind that.
So here's the sad translation: Merry Christmas here's your Froyo :(

im sorry but after two weeks ive already wanted to throw my phone 3 times....def makin the trip back to the store tomorrow...not even waiting for a froyo rom could make me stay with this brick. hopefully the X is in stock

Of your 8 posts as a member here, so far at least five of them are expressing that you're getting rid of your Fascinate; you're basically spamming this forum with your anger.

I respectfully request that you stop going around to the threads and posting your hatred for your device. If you have issues that you want assistance with in resolving them, detail those issues in a new thread for us to analyse and offer ideas and help as best we can.

Seriously. ...all this belly aching about Froyo and how long it will take. The Droid X is getting it today, and the phone came out in July some time, I think the 15th, that's a little over 2 months ago. The fascinate came out about 10 days ago, 2 months would be middle of November? And if that's the time frame so be it. I'd rather wait for a solid build, then a bug monster. I say enjoy the phone for now and realize these things take some time, my evo was better before Froyo, YouTube skips through videos constantly, and force shutdowns for sense happen daily, never a problem before 2.2

^^ this

I remember all to well the multi-posted angst in the Eris forums about the coming 2.1. It went on and on.

A few of us were dead set on keeping 1.5 and rejecting the OTA when it came because our Erises were running fine and an update seemed like fixing something that was not broken.

Many of course disagreed because they had issues with their devices.

I'm beginning to feel similarly about the coming Froyo (or other update) for the Fascinate; mine works perfectly, and I am not exaggerating, it is nothing but everything it is advertised to be and more. I've used Froyo on the Eris, as a ROM once rooted, and I was not impressed for the reason that 2.1 seemed to be less convoluted.

There were some things that seemed ok, and for the little ole Eris it seemed great that we could actually use Froyo at all. But the Fascinate.. hmm, does it need Froyo?

I'll probably accept it into my device when it comes, but I can honestly say I don't feel it's needed.

@Frisco

Totally agree with you, but a bug fix this quickly seems like they are responding quickly to some issues that you might only see from real world use. I had the original BlackBerry Storm - bug fixes took almost 6 months to release with 7....yes 7 leaked updates being released into the wild before the official bug fix. I also was an Eris owner, and was pretty frustrated with the wait for its updates, and what the updates contained.

Since then, I had the Droid Incredible - where they noticed some issues and released an update in 2 weeks - similar to this....but the Froyo speculation went on for months.

I also agree with you that this phone has been working perfectly for me as well. I kind of felt that way with 2.1 on the Dinc....but then I got my hands on 2.2 custom ROMS for it, and it was very impressive...it really became a totally different phone in a positive way.

I absolutely LOVE this phone - but I am very excited to see what level of beast this phone becomes with some customization, deodexed ROMs and the like. 2.2 with this chipset and GPU are going to be a very good thing. I do think that the Fascinate is a bit half baked and has some room for improvement. There is no way Verizon thought that releasing a phone with Bing throughout was going to be a popular choice - thus the lack of the name "Droid" Fascinate

I have great interest in the varying reports of bugs and issues with new devices.

Given the range of configurations available in Android phones, I'm wondering if these issues become apparent in some and not others because they're sort of brought out by the way the user sets up his phone.

One obvious one would be the oft reported GPS inaccuracies; if GPS is not needed by a user and not enabled, he'll not see the bug. :D

But I wonder about the other stuff, as well. In the Eris it became apparent that there must have been a quality control issue at the manufacturing and inspection plants because there were many posted reports of hardware problems but many saying they had not seen such things with their device.

Thank you thank you, That is exactly what I've been thinking this whole time, with the lag fix crap etc... I have a rooted and overclocked eris that is super smooth. A couple friends of mine got the eris but they had all kinds of problems, I must have really good luck. I got a fascinate the first day they came out and it was a really good phone except the flash burned out or something, so I got another SF. And this one is even better really smooth and the gps works great. So I am right with you guys ive had a great experience with the SF. Good luck to all others.:D

I came from a 2.2 Nexus One. I loved the phone but hated my network, which also killed my battery. I tried an evo and liked it and I was worried about the things i loved about Froyo not being present on this phone. Since moving to the fascinate I really only lost the ability to play webgames with my brother while mobile and chrome to phone :( . I am still able to watch flash movie content when i use skyfire, and this phone is amazingly fast, very comparable to my Nexus One on froyo. I am completely ok waiting for Froyo.

I told him to exhaust possible software fixes in this post here on his other rant thread:

http://androidforums.com/samsung-fascinate/182277-wow.html#post1630850

These modern smartphones are more like computers and less like phones. After exhausting all software troubleshooting, if you're still having trouble, exchange it for another Fascinate. I think those with the most issues just have defective devices. My sister has this phone - loves it. No complaints. A friend at work also got it, and she loves hers as well. I liked mine at first. After rooting, de-bloating, and installing launcher pro, I now LOVE my fascinate. Verizon replaced my Eris 3 times. They will be happy to replace a defective Fascinate for you.

Yeah, because the Fascinate wasn't already riddled with problems at release and it was the last of the four Galaxy S devices to drop. I don't think it's from rushing, but poor testers.

Howie what I am saying is that they can keep their Froyo build until it's got it's bugs worked out. I mean come on, it's been out a week on VZW and people are SCREAMING....WE WANT FROYO ALREADY, IMO...the phone is very very good, probably the best VZW has to offer in Android Flavor the way it is. Yes there are some small issues out there, but thats common with new devices. Like I stated, 2.2 effffed my EVO up! And Sprint has yet to really rectify any issues....Honestly,,,The Fascinate does everything it's supposed to do, and I'm cool with 2.1 until A BUG FREE version is Available.

I know it might be way out of range... but what would be the chances of the FS skipping Froyo and getting the Gingerbread update? I know it's been said we are officially getting an update, but with the Sammy Tabs getting the 2.3V very soon... i can't help but wonder if it's in our cards? It does meet the min requirements ... what are ya thoughts? will we get both? only the 2.2?

Chances of the SF skipping Froyo and going straight to Ginberbread = O, zilch, nada. Froyo will come even if its in December. Gingerbread is likely but thats definitely a 2011 update for this device and all its cousins

Was idly wondering about this, too. The Verizon sales dude that I bought it from even mentioned that it could happen. Although I don't really trust him - both because he's a sales guy, and because when I said I wanted the Fascinate he asked me to name features that I was buying it for. I'm already wanting to buy a $200 phone from you (plus data plan) without you having to convince me, dangit - I shouldn't have to pass a test. /miniRant

For Fascinate and Froyo:

Best case = November
Most likely = December

Why?

Device is not a main focus (Droid line is), VZW is slow in updates and Samsung will not push it like Motorola has done.

People that even think Gingerbread will hit devices this year (in mass) are wrong. The main focus for 3.0 is adding features for netbooks and tablets- not phones. Dual cores and netbooks / tablets will see 3.0 WAAAAY before current devices will. Bank on it.

BTW, I think VZW should push the Fascinate more than they do, but if you go into stores, they tend to now push the Incredible more than any device.
