Looks like the 30fps cap may be lifted possibly tomorrow OTA

blargh I just rooted my phone and installed Fresh but it's still 30fps locked. Now HTC is going to release a fix. Can a custom kernel be used with Fresh? I'm still relatively new to all this.

Check out netarchy's kernels over at xda. I'm running about 55 fps average with no problems. I know there are many others here that will agree. This update is not official by any means so don't worry.

I should say it's not confirmed...it may be official.

What'll it help? To quiet down certain EVO users who swear this thing's useless w/o > 30fps, if you ask me.

If you rooted your phone, you would indeed, see how almost useless the phone is with it being crapped out at 30fps. I had to stop by the Sprint store today (too lazy to do myself) because the spring on my kickstand popped off in the phone, leaving it to hang-10 in my pocket and almost get ripped off when I dropped it this morning. It was on my way to PT today, so I just figured why not. Anyway, back on topic. While in the store, waiting, I went to mess with the Epic and the Evo, why not right? OH MY GOD the Evo looks like total f$%k stock!! Mine (rooted) put it to total shame!! I was almost repulsed by the framerate enough to put it down! The Epic's got it's own issues hardware wise, but DAMN that stock Evo on display was CHUGGING!!! The tracking issues were VERY apparent to me when I tried using it as well. I almost had to move my finger around on screen, then stop and let it catch up to accurately input! UNACCEPTABLE!! Having to wait on the phone to catch up to you, in my book, is grounds for 'useless'. If I wanted that, I'd get a Pixi.

What could GPS Reboot mean??
Maybe Sprint's being kind enough to grace the Evo with the amazing GPS software in the Epic now!! (sarcasm, because the Epic's GPS is almost totally broken. It's usable, to a certain point, but it just doesn't work right at all.)

I just rooted today and installed the netarchy kernal. I am getting fps in the 50's according to tests, and I can see the difference, but it's not making a whole lot of difference for me. Like, if I lost root tomorrow (and there was no 30fps update coming), I wouldn't lose sleep over it. It's nice, but it's in no way a deal breaker for me.

YMMV, I guess.

Sounds promising, but I won't be convinced until we see some screen shots or my phone lights up with this update...

There has been issues with phones arbitrarily reposting on its own. It's tied to the GPS. The more you use the GPS features, the more it resets. This is the update I am looking for so I can turn the GPS back on. This phone worked awesome without it on and now it will perfect.

Personally, the one that really excites me is the Multiple Gmail Account Sync issue - that's been plaguing me since the 2.2 update (I'm currently using a workaround that involves running both GMail Notifier and having GMail's own notifications turned on).

My question is, I rooted using the latest Unrevoked 3.2 - what will I want to do to get the OTA applied without losing root?

Thanks for that info. I'm sure a little later down the line, prior to going to another device, I'll use the EVO to learn. Right now, I just don't have time to refresh should I make a mistake or need to revert to stock because of any issues. All of that is time consuming.

I had a very modified WinMO phone when I had my Touch Pro, but after all the hours I spent customizing, I realized it was a lot of wasted time that I needed for work purposes.

I too used to be apprehensive about rooting until unrevoked 3.21 lol. It's simple on click root that took about 5 minutes to do what it had to. Nice and simple.

Droidone you beat me by less than a min...!! :D

I know lol.... I was going to say something but I figured you would catch that.

Regarding the Sprint site not mentioning the cap, we have to keep in mind that this is not the official changelog. When it comes out we will have that. It's still very possible. Keep hope alive people.

Why so negative and cynical?

The OP from what I've read has a reliable track record with pre announcements and insider information.

Much like Nikon when they release firmware updates, they frequently fix things that folks are bitching about inside of a seemingly mundane update.

Big companies would rather seemingly ignore things and fix them quietly than to come out and say that they were wrong or lying to the consumer to begin with.

Let's just wait and see :)

Is it really that simple though? I was psyched to see 3.21 come out, so I start reading before running it, and I see you gotta install drivers on the phone beforehand and install a custom recovery image... Am I over-reading this stuff and unrevoked will handle everything on it's own??

Real Simple, Download 3.21 and the drivers they say. Go into your control panel then click system. Then the tab for harware and go into device manager. Make sure you unzip the drivers in a folder.

You will see you android device in device manager, just install the drivers where you put them.

Then if you have htc sync installed, uninstall it or even easier, go into your task manager and processes and shut off the process that starts with HTC. Then no need to uninstall.

After that, just launch the unrevoked .exe and follow the screen and you will be golden within 10 minutes.

I have no position on the validity of the rumored 30fps entry in the changelog, but I will point out that it is not unprecedented for Sprint's "official" change logs to omit changes -- of notable significant and number. The absence of a particular change in an official Sprint changelog does not preclude its existence.

(e.g., in the Froyo update, there were numerous undocumented changes, like the addition of a multitouch keyboard, among others)
