For what it's worth, they say if you rooted via the Unrevoked method, that root should be durable, no?
They do but I don't want to be the first to try it. I don't want to lose root. I know unrevoked should cure this issue and that is why it's called unrevoked forever but I just can't do it till it's 100% confirmed.

I did see something about unrevoked saying over twitter that if this is the final build that it is ok to update. Just a little skeptical.

Probably because there wasn't any addition of a multitouch keyboard.
I'm sitting here with a release day Evo, updated to 2.2/Froyo, non-rooted stock build and all that jazz, and the stock HTC keyboard is most definitely multitouch. Having come from a Palm Pre with physical keys, the original HTC keyboard was unusable for me and now it is.

In fact, I've just opened it up, held down one letter and then started typing with another, and it registered all the presses of the second finger while the first finger is still in contact with the screen. In contrast, my Swype keyboard doesn't allow that.

That's not multitouch. That's it disengaging the previous touch and initiating the second. You can't hold a key and press another in combination or anything. It'll forget the first and go to the second.

Hmm... I'm not sure what the practical effect of "combining" keys would be, but I am fairly certain that what I consider to be "non-multitouch" soft keyboards would not "disengage" a previous touch; in other words, because it lacks multitouch, control is monopolized by the first touch, and the keyboard will not respond to any other touches while still fully engaged.

However, because of multitouch, it will allow "disengagement" as you say, and allow for the entry of other keys even while you still have a finger on the keyboard.

So if you are rooted you cant receive the update? I have been checking and im not getting anything.
That I am not sure about. Me personally I haven't been checking because of the root issue. I am going to wait it out and see what happens. I am already on a unreleased rom by Fresh and it's working pretty good with the fps kernel, so I am not in a rush.

By the way this is going to be dropped incrementally so this will trickle down to users slowly. I am sure when someone gets it, we will all know about it.
