Help Original Leaked 2.2 rooted question

I'm not sure if this has been asked or answered yet (after reading 20+ pages of official 2.2/2.3 OTA posts), so I will just ask.

I have the original leaked 2.2 that is rooted;

In order to get the official OTA 2.2 (2.3) Verizon FROYO:

• Do I need to unroot?
• Do I need to go back to v2.1

If I need to revert to 2.1 what is the best way to back up my applications, etc.?

Go back to 2.1 with the SBF, use titanium backup to backup/restore your apps.

I did the original 2.2 update.zip leak (not the more recent spf of the deodexed 2.2).

I did move the su file before the update.zip and am remained rooted through that upgrade.

What's my upgrade path now to 2.2 OTA?

Do I need to first spf back to 2.1 and then get the OTA? Will I remain rooted through that whole process or will I need to re-root (which isn't a problem?) after? If I do that, can I run a Titanium Backup of my apps and system now on 2.2 leak and just restore everything back once I'm on 2.2 OTA or will I have to reinstall/reconfigure a lot of things.

What about just a simple update.zip that would take me from 2.2 original leak to 2.2 OTA? Is that still being worked on or is this new bootloader preventing that? I saw birdman said he was working on that, but then the whole thing with the new bootloader came up and not sure how that effects this.

Some of the back to 2.1 spf threads are old. If I have to go that route, is there a post with exact instructions that will work knowing the current situation?

I'm not sure how Birdman's progress is going to workout, I see all the developers fearing to brick their phones since we can't SBF.

But anyway, you're best and safest bet would be to use the SBF. I think you might get bootloops if you try to go straight to the OTA. And then you can use the Droid 2 root method to root 2.2

There are instructions on how to SBF, but titanium backup does not restore the settings and all that.

In reading around, I think I'll wait it out a bit before I go with SPF to 2.1 and then to 2.2 OTA.

Not that much different between that and OTA.

Hopefully, they'll be a path that doesn't include wiping the device first and gets us to equivalent to OTA.

If you're rooted on the older 2.3.9 leak, you can easily get to 2.3.15 by following this thread:

Is that the deodexed version or true OTA? I just want to be exactly where OTA is.

Which bootloader will I wind up with? Stock OTA or the older one?

Won't the wipe data/wipe cache remove all of my settings? I know I can backup with Titanium to restore apps, but what about speed dials, ringtones, wifi settings, etc. Those would all be gone?

If so, why not just SPF back to 2.1 and get the OTA? I'm not overly concerned about being able to go backwards later on or future roms.

Hrm, I didn't wipe my data coming from 2.3.9 -> 2.3.13 -> 2.3.15 and I'm not having any issues.

I guess that 2.3.15 is deodexed (no difference except it is themable). Also, it will keep your "hackable" bootloader intact, and not the new brickmachine bootloader that is coming with the OTA.

If you want to SBF back to 2.1 and get the real OTA, that works too, but I *think* you have to wipe your data & cache or else you'll get stuck at the M (downgrading from 2.2 to 2.1 makes the app data incompatible or something).

I wound up backing up with Titanium and Sprite backup, going back to 2.1, getting the OTA, re-rooting, and finally restoring Sprite application and system settings.

Took a little while, but I followed everything exactly and didn't have any problems.

Titantium restored all of my apps in their correct states. Sprite actually restored almost all of my settings like ringtones, volume, contact ringtones, exact location of my screen icons, wifi, bluetooth, etc.

There really was almost nothing for me to reconfigure once I got everything back up. The only thing it didn't restore were my widgets, which I just re-added.

I am using Titanium Backup and froze some apps like CityID, Blockbuster, etc. Do I have to unfreeze these apps before going from 2.3.9 -> 2.3.13 -> 2.3.15?

Correcting my post just above....it looks like Titanium actually restored all of that stuff, not Sprite.

Unfortunately, I've now got a "stuck" sync icon that I can't figure out how to get rid of

Could you go from a deodexed 2.3.9 straight to the deodexed 2.3.15? I don't see why not, but the instructions seem to be clear you gotta do a data wipe.

Answered my own question...looks like yes.
