Oh how i hate this phone!

I have had loads of phones, I currently have a samsung i8510, so I am not a samsung hater, I knew buying the galaxy would be a camera downgrade, but was prepared to live with that...

What i was not expecting was....

A cd full of software that has non MS signed drivers, why? did they really want me to have to do all that mouse clicking?

Wifi on the phone that turns itself off, and if i wander out of range of the router does not reconnect....

Not being able to bluetooth my contacts from my old i8510 to this new i7500, hell there from the same company I should not have an issue with this!

I made the mistake of not fitting the SD card, took a fair number of photos, and now cant get them from the phones memory onto the SD card....

I cant bluetooth the to any phone in the house, tried 5 different ones.

I cant copy them off with the software provided with the pc, it sees the phone, and tells me its not a compatible phone....

The pc suite software gives me three icons, oner called i7500, one called android1, one called android2.

I have tried the phone with usb mass storage enabled, nothing appears in 'my computer' like it does with the i8510

And why did they use this camera....

It will keep me happy for now, and i will fight with the software and hope for an update, but i think the hero may call me, or a 3rd party rom set....

3/10 for this one....

i had an epic reply for this and lost it :(
lets try again lol
A cd full of software that has non MS signed drivers, why? did they really want me to have to do all that mouse clicking?
its fine on xp, just samsung are dim and forget that vista and windows7 security model is much more strict
Wifi on the phone that turns itself off, and if i wander out of range of the router does not reconnect....
wifi has some hidden settings
click Settings>wireless controls>wifi settings>press menus, click advanced>wifi sleep policy>Never
also note that android wifi doesnt like mixed mode stuff so make your router g only and wpa/wpa2 only if you can
Not being able to bluetooth my contacts from my old i8510 to this new i7500, hell there from the same company I should not have an issue with this!
bt on android is borked for all devices appart from ones running 2.0 i believe, there are some hacks but most dont work. its made mainly for headsets and handsfree car kits etc.
I made the mistake of not fitting the SD card, took a fair number of photos, and now cant get them from the phones memory onto the SD card....
connect the phone via usb, on the notification bar click the usb part and click mount. this will allow you to see your drives as mass storage in windows and allow you to move files between the SDcard (internal) and the external microSD card. also transfer files from PC etc
I cant bluetooth the to any phone in the house, tried 5 different ones.
again its an android issues. bluetooth doesnt work well or at all for obex transfer.
I cant copy them off with the software provided with the pc, it sees the phone, and tells me its not a compatible phone..
NPS is crap and only good for updates, PC will see it as a standard mass storage device once you mount as stated above
The pc suite software gives me three icons, oner called i7500, one called android1, one called android2.
tied in with pc suite only being good for updates. it doesnt work for anything else and the two android icons you see are your drives but you are not mounted on the device so you cannot do anything and if you were then its best to do it via windows explorer anyway
I have tried the phone with usb mass storage enabled, nothing appears in 'my computer' like it does with the i8510
as stated above simply pull down the notification tray at the top when connect via usb and click the usb section and mount device, job done :p

It will keep me happy for now, and i will fight with the software and hope for an update, but i think the hero may call me, or a 3rd party rom set....
when do some reading around here, look at the guides at the top
its reletively easy to flash the galaxo/galaxhero rom but you need to have a little confidence if you are new to android and phones like this.
the galaxhero rom from drakaz is very nice and tbh makes the galaxy and excellent phone.
do so at your own risk though

i kinda had the same impression as you out of the box.., but some points

1. don't install anything from CDs (just a general rule of thumb :p)
just don't bother.

2. the post above me mentions how to use the usb.. it's good, it can charge and it's very stable/fast in transferring media back and forth

3. MOST IMPORTANT: update the firmware, there's a guide in the sticky. it took me about 20 mins and this is my first smartphone. alot of things will work much better (i.e. android marketplace will actually work).

I use win7, and I'm love my phone now. I think before upgrading to galaxo, the battery went out after like an hour of use. After flashing, I used it for like 4 hours watching videos and surfing the web last night, and it still lasted the whole day in my pocket today.

If you search the market i am sure there are other apps but i have found that 'Astro' is an excellent app for viewing files on both internal and external memory cards and allows you to shift files around like your photos!

As for the Galaxy i gave up on it! Now got myself A HTC Hero and i'm well happy with it! If you are inside the cooling off period give full consideration to returning it as the Hero is a better option!

the chin. how can u stand that s***.
galaxy looks so much better. also hero is more expensive and the camera and music quality is inferior.

I second that. The reason I got the Galaxy over the Hero, other than the similar specs (not counting the RAM that is), was that I hated the chin. No offense, but I'm amazed that people actually like it...

I'm so happy with mine, not using NPS at all, I load music with DoubleTwist, sync contact ota with Google account, I've also put it on test the battery finally, and I'm very impressed with my result , here it goes:
Fully charged on Thursday, using it throughout the day Friday receiving 5 to 7 phone call, sending out some emails, listening for nearly an hour some music and switched off for the night(5hours).
Saturday/Sunday same thing, few calls out and in, check the weather and the Tube status, read some GoogleNews and off for the night.
At today Monday 10:40am I'm still with 57% of battery left :D

There was no chance to have this sooo lasting battery life with my previous iphones,
P.S.
I'm not using TaskKiller at all, also my firmware is still the original from O2 except the KB which I replaced it with BetterKeyboard

[Sorry for thread-jacking, it's just sad to see such negative posts.]

So Apox, what have you tried, and what do you need help with? For instance, do you experience bugs and crashes, or are you put off by some of the horrible, horrible UI and usability choices made by Android? The first kind of problems we can help you with, the second really means you need to walk away.

FYI, I've had all sorts of problems with my phone (you don't wanna know), but the recent K4 firmware has fixed most of the phone's issues (I think). Of course, there are still a bunch of Android things that I'd have done differently, but which I have (for now) accepted to live with.
