Root cyanogen mod 6.0.1 camera and VC issues crashing and rebooting

Does any one have this problem too
im currently on the 6.0.1 version i got from rom manager but was wondering if there are any patches or updates for this problem?

under kernel version it says 2.6.34.5-cm

ive not changed it so im not sure. the rest of its fine really its just this issue im having.

I've been having problems with the new version of DeFroST(4.3). BSODs and random reboots. Also, with that ROM, my home and search buttons didn't work O_O

Gone back to official 1.0c until I can be bothered to find a new ROM.

ive just been to cyanogen forum and found a 6.0.15 update, seems that its a common bug that people have had but they have that patch so going to give it a go.

I just had the reboot issues, but not with the 4.1 kernels. They were stable, even though the figures were incorrect.

The Kernel (which is a Linux kernel in the case of android) is basically what allows the software (including the ROM) communicate with (or use) the hardware. It manages the information passed by the software to the hardware so it can process it.

ROMS all come with a kernel, but some custom roms have a few kernels to choose from. The differences being that some of these kernels undervolt (allowing less power for the same processor speed) or overclock at the normal power level (allowing the processor to run faster than standard).

The disadvantage of course is often they are experimental and can be buggy, causing issues.

i have just installed neophytes rom, leedroid, defrost

each one has been the most up to date rom for each yet with each one i have had a problem with the camera issues. the camera takes the photo but the video recorder crashes for each rom and i have cleared and wiped fro rom manager with each new flash.

not sure now if theres something else seeing as it happens with all these roms?
any one using these roms have a problem with the camera/ recorder

ah im having a complete nightmare. since i did those rom flashes my phones just got crazy. I intially tried to go back to cyanongen 6.01 and it didnt work so i tried a standard from from modaco and that just kept rebooting it didnt even start so now im trying to restore from clockwork but ive not had a working rom for the past couple of hours. i wish i didnt play around with it now.
if this restore works. is there a way i can literally just delete all the stuff and flash a brand new clean rom with no problems. i always check the "clean and wipe cache" on rom manager when flashing a new rom so i dont no why defrost 4.8 didnt allow the camera to work. i uploaded the new radio file they said to install with the rom to allow the camera to work but that just basically stopped my radio working and i had not network scan.

You can download a generic 2.2 RUU and your phone will then be completely stock.

If camera doesn't wotk then, maybe its hardware issue.

Probably not an appropriate qn in the appropriate place, but roughly, how does one compile a new ROM from something else? How do modders go about it?

Do they compile after modifying pieces of open source code? Or do they have to reverse engineer binaries?

i dont know sometimes what im doing i really dont. but i have somehow managed to set up my ideal rom without even realising it. i restored my settings for a rom i had downloaded first "neophyte" the camera didnt work on this so i started changing things around. now i have restored it the camera and video are working fine, its a quality rom, its sense, its 2.2 i got launcher pro. so finally im happy.
not sure how i did it. but hayho.
