Root handcent icon?

well if you know how to change them, and thus know how to alter them on the phone, then you would know where they are located on the Droid & how to access them, no? so what good will getting an image do unless you know how to place it back on your phone and if you know how to do that, wouldn't you know where they are located???

but anyway, could you pull it from the apk from something like the FRG01B zip file.

I extracted and attached a handcent icon - just 1 of many color options

Thank you so much. I know how to change them and put back on the phone but not how to extract them from apk. If you could point me to a How To extract a png from and apk I will be sure to use it in the future. Thanks again.

Edit: your constructive criticism forced me to learn how to extract them and now I know how to get them. Didn't realize I could just get them from the apk so easily. Makes sense now. Thanks for all your help.

ok, I want to replace the handcent icon with the watermark'd text icon notification. I dont know how to access the apk or anything elst that yall mentioned above..but if someone could give a detailed description of how i can do this.. id much appreciate it.

Im running lyf1.6, watermark'd

Download a copy of the watermark rom on your pc. Unzip it with winrar or 7-zip program. Find the apk you want the icon of(messaging app, phone app,etc..). Inside that apk(app) will be a png file of the picture(icon) you want. Just copy that picture some where on your pc that you can find. Then connect your phone to pc via usb. Move that picture to the sd card where all your other pictures are. In my case it is a folder called My Pictures. Disconnect phone from pc. Now at this point I use an app called Bettercut to change the icons. Using Bettercut you will just long press the home screen and select shortcuts. Then select Bettercut-applications(or systems depending on your needs)-the app(handcent or whatever) and press the icon to replace it with the picture you moved earlier to your gallery. You can rename the app also at this time if you like. Press create when done and the new icon for your app is on the home screen some where. Move it to where you want. Repeat as often as you like.

Ps. this will only change the home screen icon not the app drawer icon.

If you have trouble let me know and I will try to extract the picture(icon) you want and post it for you but right this second I am not sure which one you want exactly.

thanks.. but im looking to change the icon that pops up in the notification bar..not the desktop icon. Someone else offered the idea of desktop visualizer..which does what you are saying too...

I guess its not possible to change what i want?

you can change it by unpacking the apk-changing the icon for the notification with proper sized pic-resigning the ap-then loading. That is a lot more complicated. If I get time I will see if I can do it later and write a walk through.

This. would be awesome. I would get to learn a lot :). And you would get 1 huge thank you from me lol.

I was able to get the icons you wanted. Tried to just implement the green android guy for sms but seem to be messing something up when I resign the apk because it won't install. Also if this app gets an update it will overwrite the mode I am trying to do. Might have to take a theme approach to keep it intact. I will do some work on it later but I have never made a theme so this will be hit and miss.lol Sorry but I am trying.

Also you post states that you have watermarkd installed. Does handscent override your watermark notification icons? If so then a theme won't work so I guess i am back to the apk mode but like I stated. Any update(which will have to be manually done because handcent might not show up in market downloads after being modified) will undo the hack.

Not wanting to hijack this but didnt want to create a new thread for a similar question.
I use the Handcent small widget on my homescrren so that i get the number of unread messages appear on it. I would like to change that widget icon but keep the unread messages counter on it.
Is there a way to do this with an unrooted desire running froyo.

thanks

Nathan

Im afraid you have lost me with themed widgets lol.
I have just noticed that this thread is in all things root (i found it from a search)
AS i am not rooted i think maybe some of the answers i get here may not apply so it may be better for me to ask in the desire section although if anyone does have the answer (if there is one) then i would still appreciate it.

Thanks

Nath

Hi guys, I am brand new here... I am so happy that I could find someone like me who just felt the need to change some icons.... (nothing else to do, apparently... lol... ) So, following this thread, I tried myself to modify the Handcent icon: I tried to replace one of the handcent original icons (the orange one, named icon_orange_ur_noti.png with the original contacts.apk message icon (the golden mail), named "pbook_msg_texticon.png", all this by extracting from .apk. But... as both Istolvampire and Lock-N-Load" said, the problem is in going back from .zip to .apk... it won't install... I tried modifing the apk directly from inside the system root but it doesn't seem to work...

Any other ideas.... ?

Many thanks in advance...

Chiara

btw. all this on a Samsung Galaxy S running Android v.2.1

Seems you need to resign it with a program and adb. Never was able to get it to work. I can just change the icon for the app itself but that you can do to any app as long as you don't mind the original icon in the app drawer. Seems making a theme would probably be your best bet and just flash it to change certain things.
