Root OTA Update?

I've been reading posts for an hour now and can't find a direct answer. Or maybe there is one and I'm missing it due to my lack of rooting knowledge. I am using velocity .2 and clockwork mod recovery. I am getting a system update notification, Update now/Later, etc. What do I do? I am reading some of the posts and some seem like they pertain to it. Since Im rooter and on velocity .2 can I update? Do I have to go to the stock LG rom in rom manager and apply that first? do I have to do a factory reset? Am I supposed to lose root. Some help on how to apply the update with velocity .2 and clockword mod recovery tutorial to apply the update without bricking phone please.

I'd be interested to hear an answer to this, too. I wasn't sure whether we'd be prompted for the OTA update if we were running Velocity 0.2. How are other Velocity users handling the VZB update? Are you all just applying it manually first, or is it possible to ignore it entirely and stick with Velocity?

I'm not sure about how to apply the update over Velocity, but I just did some research last night on how *not* to apply it. An update request poped up on my girlfriend's Ally (running Velocity). I was worried that if the update was applied over Velocity, it might have some issues.

It turns out that CWM recovery will actually block the update from installing. Therefore, if you want the update request to go away, tell it to apply the update and recovery will just block it on restart.

As for applying the update, your best bet would probably be to wait for Trident to patch any changes into Velocity. If you want it right now, I think you'd have to go back to the Stock rom and stay there. The update would be incompatible to apply *over* velocity, and applying velocity *over* the update would (I think) just nullify the update and get you back where you started.

So if I go to rom manager and apply the odexed/stock v8 rom, then when the OTA pop up alerts me to install I can do it then? Or will it still cancel it out when restarting? I just need like a step by step thing if possible. I'm planning on creating a backup in clockwork, then applying the V8 Stock rom in rom manager then after it is done applying the update. Then leave it at that with no custom rom put on it until there is one made for the update. Also, when this update comes onto my phone, which is currently rooted. Does it stay rooted and will all of my apps continue to work as rooted and superuser permissions still there? I dont want to lose root or brick my phone because of a stupid required update if there isn't even anything being changed much. And what does the update do, has anyone applied it yet?

Velocity does not block OTA updates custom recovery has OTA disable and clockwork blocks when trying to install. However, even if you do go stock. apply the update and then apply velocity again, all you will get is the new radio. everything else from the update is taken off, simply because Velocity is based off the stock V8. You will lose root if you go stock and do the OTA update. it is not required. this update fixes stability issues and camera issues and adjusts responsiveness. and adds more junk pre-installed apps. Once again, this update UNROOTS the phone. it can be rooted again though. and if you apply the v8 stock rom via rom manager make sure you clear cache and dalvik cache and wipe data. Once again if you get the prompt to update and you have clock work recovery installed, tell it to apply the update, and then the recovery will block it on its own, no need to do anything else. and your phone also will not prompt you again for the update.

That's not true, because I have drellisdee's recovery on my phone, with velocity and his turbo4 and I have the update notification that keeps popping up. Unless there is something wrong with me, what you said isn't the case. When I reboot into recovery, drellisdee's recovery comes up, so i know that is working fine. yet, i still have the update.... am i missing something?

I did a little peruzing in drellisdee's media sharing folder and found the signed_VZB_rooted_deodex_radio_1015.zip file in there. I flashed that and then flashed his Turbo4 without kernel on top. With just the rom flash, linpack got 3.9 or so average. With the turbo4 and no kernel, it got 7 or so average. So far, i haven't gotten any update notifications, even though my system info still says VZ8. Is that supposed to change? Anyways, everyone is sure talking up velocity 3.

When installing via this method, it doesn't change that. It's just cosmetic, though.
