What films, clips or animations do you use to demo your S AMOLED screen?

So far, I've been using the opening of Dario Argento's Stendhal Syndrome, but what I should use is a clip from a film involving bioluminescent fish swimming up from the oceanic blackness. Wouldn't that look cool? If I could think of an example of a film like that, I'd drop it on.

Luminous fish swimming in blackness, space operas filled with lights, stars, predatory suns and warrior ships in the heavens, hallucinogenic montages from flicks like Inception -- all of that seems as if it would show off our screens to good advantage. (Of course, it helps when you tell friends you just dropped the flick sitting on your PC's drive without needing to convert it.)

What about you? What films and clips do you use to demo your screen for friends?

I dont have a film, Im using a music video to demo the screen. So far I have seen jaws drop when I show anyone this: Its all about the DEFTONES! (and hot girls making out! :D) sextape is the name if the song. DL this video @ 720p and playback. Words can't describe...

You know, if you replaced the words bioluminescent fish with glitter-lit women caressing each other as they swim, this would be exactly the sort of footage I meant.

I'll probably download this, though I won't be showing off the effect to my girlfriend:

"Yes, I can see they're all attractive. Yes, they all have good bodies. I can see why you think the video's so . . . impressive. Is this what you do with your free time?"

cluckkillerb: Does IMAX really make a difference on your phone? If so, how does that work?

Haven't seen that film, but if you have a link to the sequence, please post it.

tylerdurdin: I actually watched Book of Eli but don't quite remember the beginning. Was it the slo-mo sequence in which Denzel's character wasted a critter?

There are some nice videos on YouTube produced by DC Shoes that feature pro precision driver Ken Block (couple from his Subaru sponsorship days and some from his new Ford sponsorship) that are OUTSTANDING. Check them out in 720p. The sound, color and motion are all great show-offs for the Epic and any Samsung Galaxy S device.

One such example...YouTube - Gymkhana THREE, Part 2; Ultimate Playground; l'Autodrome, France

I second avatar or making iphone owners crazy jealous because SAmoleds over saturation of colors is a benefit, not a problem on animations. anything animated.

The samsung viedo player is not very good, use mvideoplayer for a lot more control (and subtitles). I have good custom settings on hbrake but get better results with ripbot264 using presets to bring it to 800 x 480 with perfect aspect using some auto cropping.

Ony donwside besides over saturation compared to other smartphone is audio on the speaker is not the best.

Ok, newbie question....why when I try to open this video on my Epic with the Youtube app, it says "Sorry, this video cannot be played"??

Not to mention I cannot even find the video if I do a search from my Epic, assistance please

I'm not of the opinion that the colors are over saturated. They just pop and look soooo much better on this screen. If you need to ease up on that, turn the brightness of the display down. I rarely watch anything at full brightness.

I should check out ripbot. I'm not too good with handbrake :(

Same problem here. The youtube app seems to hide some videos... so I don't see a way we can play that one on our Epic.

I went to youtube on my PC, downloaded the video in firefox using the "download helper" plug-in (in 720p) Plugged my phone into my PC and dropped the video on my SD card. I wasn't streaming the video I downloaded it. The whole process take less than 3 min.

hope that helps..

If you are looking for "Luminous fish swimming in blackness", try the movie "The Abyss". I would think it should have some pretty stunning imagery for the Epic's screen. :)

The good part about the IMAX scenes is that it changes aspect ratio during those times, elimating the black bars along the top and bottom. Unfortunately I can't legally send you a link, lol.

there is an excellent ripbot264 forum at doom9 with the author actively participating. you can also always ask general quesiton at another great forum for video, videohelp.com

Professional reviews did note the SAmoled color over saturation as do users here.

It isn't really about brightness settings. I am not editing photos of people and color scales for publication on my Epci so I don't mind the saturation to much, I was simply saying tha tif you want to make those iPhone owners cry, animations or CGI films on the Epic will break their hearts.

Again I would also hearily recommend installing videoplayer, which has a lot of options for video playback and which workls well with Adnroid

Avatar is a very colorful movie and if you manage to get a 720p rip with an aspect ratio of 16:9\16:10, it looks sooooo perfect on this display. I've made iPhone users jealous showing off that movie. It's nice to have a 32GB SD card so I can keep it on my phone at all times :)

The only thing about 720p movies is they're rather large. Max file size on my FAT32 / SD-card is 4 gigs.
