Accessories Which Micro SD for Captivate?

I'm curious as to what SD cards people cought for their respecitve phones? I'm currently looking at something in the 16gb range, but can't decided the speed/price/brand.

List which cards you got, and/or which you would get

I was able to find a 32gb SanDisk that was brand new in Verizon packaging, with a mini SD adapter and a USB adapter for $99.00 shipped on Ebay. It is loading 3260 songs via iTunes Agent as we speak.

Im buying a 32GB card from a friend that works at Verizon. I figure its the cheapest way to get a REAL card without the risk of eBay or Amazon fake remarked junk.

Try putting 32Gigs of data on there and get back to us. A lot of those are 2-8 gig cards formatted to display 32 gigs.

I have this one: Newegg.com - DANE-ELEC 16GB Micro SDHC Flash Card w/ SD Adapter Model DA-2IN1-16G-R . I realize it's not the fastest card out there by any means, but it has worked perfectly fine for me. It's out of stock right now, but they list a ETA of Aug 9th for a new batch.

I heard that when we get the update to froyo 2.2 and are able to put apps on the sd card, the speed of the card will definitely play a big role.

Thats what makes me sketchy of buying anything that isnt a reputable brand, a lot of reviews say that they dont get nearly the speed they should from their class 4/class 6 cards. I found a few class 4 sandisk 16gb cards on amazon, and if you get their amazon card (30$ off first purchase) it comes out to around 52$. Seems like a huge jump from under 30$ for a class 2 though.

Went to bestbuy and walmart. I ended up with a 4gb class 4. That's all I could find.

Don't buy brands that you have never heard of and do not buy from ebay. Too many fake cards floating out of Asia onto the internet.

Not just fake but the cheap cards go bad easily, too. Sandisk is the best brand to buy. I'll use Kingston in a pinch as well...

I'd disagree from personal experience. SanDisk, when they work, are some of the most over-priced and slowest cards. I've had quality issues with them as well. Their failure rate is higher than other well-known brands.

The best deal on quality these days would probably be A-Data. I have also had great results with PNY, Crucial and OCZ.

SanDisk and Kingston are simply the Symantec/Norton and McAfee of the flash memory world: the brands even the most-experienced user knows (and often the only brands they know), but far from the best out there.

I used it to test a class 6 16Gig micro SD card I just got off of Ebay and saw 5.92mb/s speed so I know i got what I paid for.

here is the guy on ebay ( Everything But Stromboli). He seems to have decent cards at decent prices. ( I don't know him other than my one Ebay transaction)

I went for a Transcend 8 GB microSDHC Class 6 Flash Memory Card TS8GUSDHC6E by Transcend Amazon.com: Transcend 8 GB microSDHC Class 6 Flash Memory Card TS8GUSDHC6E: Electronics via @amazon. I used it both in my phone and my digital camera. (My digital camera has a class 6 16GB card). I feel like that's all I need for now. 8GB should be enough for my music ( I have over 500GB of music and I keep changing what I have in the captivate). For $22, it's not an investment, until flash dives get cheaper.
Also, don't get anything lower than class 6. It matters when you write HD video on the card.

I've got a SanDisk 32GB card. Class 2, since that's all there is right now, but it's filled to the brim with music, and it's plenty fast for that (and videos play fine off of it too, when I tested).

The first card I bought, from an Amazon 3rd party seller, was a fake. If I tried to put more than 4GB of stuff on it, it would wig out. Luckily, Amazon has excellent protections in place for issues like that. I returned the card and was refunded the full cost + shipping.

Yes, but the main issue are the fake cards, most of which (also) come from China. Places like eBay and the Amazon Marketplace (third-party sellers) are full of them.

They're advertised as being some huge size but they're really a fraction of that... something the buyer doesn't discover until later on down the road when they try to put more than 2GB on a "16GB" card...

Yes, get a MicroSDHC card and you'll be fine. Some places refer to all such cards as just "MicroSD". The "HC" just means "high capacity" and refers to the spec required to get the larger capacities. The form factor is the same and the Captivate supports HC.
