Help USB Debugging Widget

@evileyez3
@BeerFox

Thanks for your replies. I've been staying away from LauncherPro, not because it isn't a fine app, but rather because I'm relatively content with TouchWiz. It would be nice if we could create a LauncherPro shortcut and then port it to TouchWiz. There have been a couple of LP shortcuts that have been "worthy" of my oh-so-special Captivate screen :).

not that i know of, it only comes on when i plug it into my computer, well thats what it used to do the the update bricked it

I'll leave it on. I don't know why I always unchecked it...maybe because I was afraid that updating the phone with it checked would brick it.

Sorry. It was too tempting.

Are you getting an exchange? If so, at a store or via mail? I don't want to sift through the forum's update noise in case you've already posted your status.

Any downside to this?

Depends on what you're using it for. With USB Debugging off, you get the choice of a few different USB activities (Mass Storage, MTP, PC Internet, etc). With it on, it overrides the selections there - USB Debugging gives adb-related activities, and a 'modified' version of Mass Storage from what I can tell.

So if you're just using USB for ADB and copying files, you should be fine. The Mass Storage isn't exactly the same, so some apps that sync using Mass Storage (like DoubleTwist) may get confused by it. If you're trying to do anything with Kies/PC Internet/etc, you'll have to disable Debugging and go back to the standard menu choices.

If you care about your phone's security, there is.

With USB debugging enabled, anyone who plugs your phone into a computer has full access to it through adb. If you've rooted your phone, they have root access. It doesn't matter if your phone is locked.
