I was a complete noob about a week ago. Don't worry. It's not that bad. Just read, read, read, read, read (I can't stress it enough) to at least get an idea of the different methods of rooting. I ended up using the Unrevoked 3.21...the beta right before it was released again. Everything went fine although I was as nervous as a long tail cat in a room full of rocking chairs!!

Just read, follow the many good tips and advice on this forum and you can't go wrong. There is a ton of good info here and lots of people willing to help. This is a great community.

I have yet to try different ROMS. I was satisfied with the stock froyo 2.2 so I flashed the rooted version. I was really only concerned with unlocking the free wireless tether.

I am using the netarchy 4.1.9 kernel w/HAVS. I might go to the 4.1.8 as I have had some locking up/hanging issues....

I downloaded the reflash_packag_Unrevoked_3.21 and also downloaded a ROM and the kernel. I followed the link on Novox77's signature for the ROM and Kernel.

Check out the info in this link http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ng-exploit-stock-2-2-phone-now-available.html

That is the info I referenced when learning to do my EVO root. Good luck!

So there is not an easier way to use a custom rom and what not? Why cant rooting and loading a custom rom be as simple just like the original motorola droid lol

Got it! The directions on the sites I visited were not very clear. I had no idea about the hold the power and the volume button thing down until I found it on some random site. Honestly, I hate how people think since because you are new at something, you must be a dumb arse, and therefore beneath them, lol. Everyone was new at something once, and they all should remember that, when making directions or comments to people's dilemma's. Thank you for the good wishes everyone! Im sure they helped. The only thing I wanted to change on my phone was... get rid of apps I never use, change the lock screen so it doesnt dial 911, and get the wifi tether.... I still dont know how to do those things or which apps can be safely removed, so I am off to do more research!)

run unrevoked again...it took me 5 times to get it to work. so keep trying..although if it said you are successfully rooted, its hard to understand why you arent..
hold the volume button down, and the power button at the same time..when the screen comes up, does it say S-off or S-on?

ok well I am finally able to run wireless tether which does require root, but still am not able to use titanium backup to try and backup my applications to try to load a custom rom. Any ideas??? I figured it would be all or nothing when it comes to being rooted.

<-- THE EASIEST WAY TO ROOT-->
If you need video, use THIS VIDEO to guide you through..

Basically people, I am really new @ this level of modding. If I can do it, anyone can do this. Like he says in the video, it's really simple. FOLLOW DIRECTIONS!
If you need time, stop the video @ one of your steps and resume when you are ready.

If you have not done so already, I would highly advise to do the OTA update from HTC before you root your phone, so that you don't run into any issues.
