"Project Voodoo is an Open Source community effort to improve Galaxy S phones."

They have two current projects:
-Voodoo Color
-Voodoo Lagfix

Downloads are free, and do not require that your phone be rooted.

I'm primarily interested in Voodoo color, since my phone does suffer from the blue tint. I'm wondering, for those people who have installed these Voodoo projects, what is your experience like.:cool::cool::cool:
ps..check out the first link below, Voodoo color does some amazing things beyond just the blue tint problem.

I have read some horror stories regarding lagfix, it may not have necessarily been the lagfix released by Voodoo, but I have heard about various problems such as phone starting to reboot by itself after installing lagfix, phone actually getting slower, and even bricking. I would like to know if these problems apply to Voodoo also. Anybody experience any of these issues with the Voodoo projects?

Any thoughts, insights, ideas, whatever, all will be appreciated!

Thanks!

Yeah...I was looking at Voodoo Color at the same time I was looking at Voodoo Lagfix but somewhat lost sight of it while dealing with the lagfix.

The lagfix creates an ext4 partition and can be tricky to deal with apparently. Some people report smashing success with it, but other have reported less-than-desirable results.

As for me, I simply couldn't get it to work after 3 attempts. It didn't brick or otherwise whack my Vibrant, rather it never was able to create the ext4 for reasons unknown to me.

One thing to remember about the Voodoo Lagfix...if you decide to flash another ROM, you MUST disable the lagfix first. Otherwise you will be a "sad panda," as sombionix, creator of the Bionix ROM, says. Disabling/enabling the lagfix is a simple matter fortunately.

Thanks! So honestly the lag on my phone doesn't bug me at all. What bugs the living day lights out of me is the blue tint.:cool::thinking:

Can I install Voodoo color without Voodoo lagfix? I can't seem to find a seperate download for Voodoo Color, looks like both are in the same update.zip, yes/no?

Thanks

I don't see a Voodoo Color for the Vibrant yet, just the International version. You can install the lagfix separately, obviously, but right now that's it.

Been here yet? I expect you have:

Download | Project Voodoo, Galaxy S improvements

I believe the lagfix is up to Beta4 right now...been a couple of days since I spent time on the thread on xda.

Here's a thread on the project...care to read through 109 pages? :D

you live in san fernando valley? holly cow I'm in LA also!

All the LA folks should get together like nerds for pizza night and play around with our phones:rolleyes:

Yeah...actually just outside the Valley at the northeast end. But close enough. I try to avoid the bowels of the Valley when I can, stick to the northern rim.

Hey...any excuse to eat pizza and play with electronic goodies! :)

Ya I saw that download link, thats why I was confused, I thought voodoo color was out already, so it was confusing me. So it's not out?

Unfortunately I can't read 109 pages, I'm back to my old super busy schedule now. I'll be frequenting this forum less, I bet some people will be happy about that.

No...Color just for the International version right now. Might not have to wait too long...a few days ago there wasn't even a link to Lagfix for the Vibrant. I got the impression a lot of people were getting it with Bionix or there was a link to a download somewhere on xda.

Yeah, maybe some people will be happy, but to me your absence will be conspicuous! :p

well i hope the voodoo color fixes my blue tint, technically I can still exchange my phone for a new one, but I don't want the risk of getting a worse phone. Blue tint is the only real problem I have, aside from GPS but we are already promised an optimization so blue tint is my only problem now. I just don't like doing exchanges, it's a hassle. I dunno though, I don't want to live with this dumb blue tint either.

Shows you how much video I watch on my Vibrant...I've never noticed the blue tint...only heard about it!

I applied the Voodoo lagfix and its working great. Took me 3 tries though, but so far it been working flawlessly. Huge difference from the one-click lagfix in the market. This one doesn't have the stall from time to time.

I also have the blue tint issue so hope they can crank this out for all to install to have this issue corrected for sure!

How did you get Voodoo Lagfix to take? I tried 3 times as well and it simply wouldn't work. It didn't whack anything..the phone still ran fine, but it just wouldn't make the ext4 partition.

I followed this post exactly:

xda-developers - View Single Post - [PRJ] Vibrant Voodo Lag-fix w/OC-Optimized 2.6.29 Kernel - Beta4 9/19/2010

And it worked. You should wait for Beta5 to iron out more bugs. But so far this is super snappy. I don't think I can even upgrade to Froyo until this support it...(I can't deal with the stall issue anymore at this point...) Quadrant score is about 1800 but better than my higher score one-click lagfix.

Another great perk about Voodoo is it seems to fixed the lag I had when I unlock my screen. There would be a huge pause before it unlocks. Now it is pretty much unlock and it'll load immediately. Could be from the deoxdexed rom, not sure. :)

Ah...okay. I did see that post earlier in the week. I'd been trying to install Voodoo included in one version of Bionix.

I'll wait till Beta5 comes out and try again. Thanks for the info!

Remember, when looking at the voodoo color fix pictures, all of those pictures are simulated (they took a single screen shot and put them in photoshop to simulate the experience). As far as my phone goes, when I put it on google.com and then put my computer to google.com and hold my phone up to the computer monitor my phone does appear to have a bit of a blueish tint, but then when I look at the computer screen it appears to have almost a yellowish tint compared to my phone. In any case the tint is not noticeable at all when the two are not up close to each other. Make sure there is actually a tint worth complaining about and its not just you psyching yourself out.

Hey, well I've been examining this tint issue in detail. I've actually gone into the different carrier stores to compare my Vibrant side-by-side to other Vibrants, Epics, Fascinates etc. It appears the tint varies from phone to phone. Some of these phones absolutely have no blue tint, they produce warm rich bright white tones, others are blue/green, some are blue/gray like mine, some are blue, others are yellow, and I even saw a Vibrant and Epic that were both down right almost dirty brown. Very annoying that such differences exist.

I would say my phone has the most severe blue tint I've seen so far on a Galaxy S phone. I'm still in my exchange window but honestly, I hate doing exchanges. I rather just return the phone and purchase something else over doing an exchange and playing the gamble game of getting a worse Vibrant. If I get a worse vibrant, thats it, no 2nd exchange, I return it and move onto a different manufacturer. I'm shocked to read some people do like 5 exchanges. Anyways, so I have to make up my mind soon. The blue tint is enough that it bugs me on a day to day basis. It could be possible that my eyes are just so accustomed to yellow toned whites, and this blue thing is throwing me for a loop, but I don't know. It would have been nice to have received one of those vibrants that produce warm rich white tones the first time!

So here is a picture of my phone next to my HTC phone.

Tell me what you think about my blue tint:
The one on the left is my HTC Phone, the one on the Right is the Vibrant. I prefer the one on the left, and I've seen Vibrants capable of producing that kind of white. BTW I'm running both phones on max brightness, and using an app called Screen Test, set to white.

I dunno, that blue on the right is driving me crazy, what do you guys think? Is yours this severe? Can you provide a pic of your vibrant up next to your lcd monitor?
