anyone thinking about going back?

Not in a million years. I have experienced no problems whatsoever. Flash works like butter. Battery manager hasn't force closed a single time. Keyboards are the same as before (I use better keyboard)

Someone mentioned something in the glitch thread that I wonder if it has merit. When I updated I set the phone to update and then went to bed. When I woke up an hour later the phone was still doing its thing. I was groggy and just left it alone. When I woke for work later that morning the phone has worked flawlessly ever since.

The poster in the other thread hinted that perhaps some problems were more heavily noticed by folks who had pulled the battery before the update had completed. Not sure at all if this is valid but I think it's worth looking into?

I wouldn't go back even if I could. I'm not seeing a huge difference but just the on screen camera button is worth it to me.

Flash is working ok for me.

I was getting the FC on the battery manager until I did a factory reset. Now working fine.

Also, the update fixed the issue with not being able to upload videos larger than 100mb to youtube.

so flash is almost unusable, tasker no longer can kill apps, Gmail is ok, but the battery manager FC's every time i open it, keyboards now all gimped up.
Whos here thinking maybe sticking with 2.1 was the better idea?

you're having issues because you're running ATK. get rid of any task killing applications. its only hurting Android OS.

Steps for a better Android Experience

- Remove all task killing applications (ex: ATK, Autostart)
- Do factory reset

I assure you, by doing just these two simple tasks, your experience will be MUCH better.

Like I told you before you can't go back. From what I read before it sounds like you were deleting keyboards and trying to install ones that are not compatible with your phone. Read up on task killers google rendered them useless in 2.2 for a reason. Also you can still kill tasks if needed in your application settings, although this is not needed because android does it for you like it always has. The battery manager I will concede as being a problem for some (not me, although it was in every leak). 2.1 one isn't even in the same league as 2.2 and that is why many people jumped at the first chance to get 2.2.

I'm of the opinion that if trying to decide between having 2.1 and 2.2 running on your Motorola Droid X is the biggest issue in your life right now, you don't have problems. Go spend a year in Afganistan. When you get back, you won't give a damn which OS your phone is running.

You can kill apps but you have to go into the settings and kill them one by one. Before when my phone was lagging I could open task killer and kill everything I want to with one click and the phone no longer lags. Also your right the Android OS will kill tasks as needed, but it kills what I am using at the time instead of the crap I never use. When I'm browsing it'll automatically close my tabs and say it's because of memory but Blockbuster, VZ Nav, and others that I've never used are using memory. Until it kills the right apps I need a task killer.

Of course not. I ran the leak as soon as it was released and had no real issues, except the battery manager FC problem. Now with the official, that issue is fixed. Besides, Flash to me is worth any possible hassle as I browse quite a bit and prefer to not have a 'crippled' iPhone-like experience.

if blockbuster and vznav are taking up the last of your memory, something is wrong. the phone has 512, and those take up < 5MB ea (less than 1%). task killers use more resources by taking up clock cycles than they free up. but, of course, this is a never ending debate that will never be solved.

Ram that is not in use is essentially wasted. Those apps that you never use are not using anything more than unused memory, unless of course if you kill them then they are using your cpu. I hope you realize every time you kill it comes right back and uses more resources to do so.

it seems so simple, but i just dont think people wanna believe it. i think people want to believe more available memory = better. they dont understand that if there is very little available memory, that means that there is a ton of stuff just waiting, ready to open at the snap of my fingers.

There are lots of things I dont use that take up memory not just those, and some that I do use just not as often. My task killer uses no memory or CPU until I open it and then I have it set to kill itself when I hit "kill selected" so it was not a problem.

Its not the task killer that is using more resources, its the constant opening and closing of applications. Im telling you I run linux every day, and if you want a more reliable source than me ask google they were the ones that disabled this feature.

But if I dont kill them then my phone lags and kills what I'm currently working on/using. When I first got my phone it lagged alot, then I read about why to use task killers so I grabbed one and it helped. A few days later I started seeing all the treads talking about how bad they are so I uninstalled my task killer and started having the lagging issues agian. The problem is with auto task killers set to kill everything, or to kill things on a cycle. Task killers should be set to ONLY kill the apps you dont use and only if you know what they are. They shouldn't be put on a cycle, only use them when you start seeing performance issues or before you use a program for lengthy sessions. If I don't kill some of what is eating my memory then I end up losing my webpages, music or whatever I doing at the time.

I know they disabled the feature thats why my phone lags so much now, and it's starting to become more of a hassle than fun to use my phone much like my BB Storm was. I love this phone and hopefully sometime soon I can have the lagging issues fixed or revert to 2.1

well i dont actully use a task killer, it was more of my Tasker action that when i press the camera button, it needed to stop the task of opening the camera, so it could open a menu so i could choose camera, camcorder or barcode reader.
And yes, I did a factory reset just before installing 2.2, because my 2.1 was buggered all up because I deleted blockbuster, and NFS shift.
The keyboard thing is just an annoyance that I tried to fix. Its still better in 2.1.
So we still have flash, keyboard, and battery issues in 2.2.
