The stock lock screen is useless!

Seriously, it serves no purpose. This is my first Android phone, and I'm switching from 3 years of iPhone use. Is there any way to have the screen turn on and display texts and/or emails? I find it annoying and redundant that my phone does the "new sms" sound but I have to actually unlock it and either read the sms in the menu bar or open the messages app.

I installed widgetlocker but I don't like the way it looks. I prefer the SenseUI lock screen layout instead of the two little nubs on either side of the screen.

So is it possible to have the texts display on the lock screen like an iPhone?

don't know if you've tried handcent sms (app) but there is an option to have a text pop up as it comes in while your phone is locked, you can either just look at it, mark it as read, or reply straight from it

In the settings you can choose to use a sense style unlock . You can also choose to display text but I believe this only works with apps like handcent SMS. check out your settings in widget locker....you have soooo many options. Here is my current lockscreen using multicon and folder organizer to give me quick access to some stuffs. Going to be cleaning it up quite a bit this weekend.

That is a pretty sweet lock screen. Did you have to root your phone for it?

EDIT: Wow there's a ton of settings for Handcent. I'm just waiting for my friend to text me so I can test it out, lol.

EDIT 2: K it works awesome now. ^_^ Except for the fact that the green LED is stuck on...gonna have to look at my settings and see if I messed them up somewhere...

Ok another edit, rofl. Is it possible to change the icon for Handcent? I like the icon for the stock messaging app better than the Handcent icon.

I'm pretty sure it's a modded widget locker.... from what I understand you have to adb pull the apk and modify it and then remount it

On the vanilla lock screen (basic HTC Sense lock screen) the content of the recently received SMS will be displayed below the lock bar. You don't have to unlock to see it.

With Handcent, as previously stated, you can set it up to display SMS popups. This is by far the most convenient.

And as for widget locker. I do not like the two little nubs either (as far as unlocking goes) and neither do many other people that use it. Which is why Widget Locker allows you to choose from 4 or 5 different locks (iphone, rotary, sense, vanilla 'nubs', and I think something else...). Here's mine...

Try NoLock from the market. Completely removes the lock screen so when you hit the power button, it goes straight to the home screen.

I'm new to android, but I just dont under stand why you need a lock screen after you already have to hit a button to wake up the phone.

Depends on the phone. Some are very easy to wake up in a person's pocket or purse. I used to have issues with my Samsung Moment waking up in my pocket and dialing 911 but that was a sh*t phone anyways.

I'm with you on the Evo though. The lockscreen is mostly pointless if it's just vanilla and you don't use any form of password protection.

Better Cut can change just about any app icon you want:
SMS/MMS icon goes to handcent and I used better cut to make it.

Where did that clock come from? I had the coolest one on my TP2 similar to that but the numbers also were transparent so you could see right through to the background. I would love a similar one for my EVO. Is

Is it for flashed rom phones only? I wish I could just get an apk clock file of the this clock I used to have before. On my windows mobile I just downloaded these cab files. But I never had a flashed rom on it neither. But I like the themes I saw over at XDA. I like the blue Android with the apple. LOL!

Yes they are for flashed roms. I am using Fresh Rom and this theme is great on it.
