Root I want to overclock my stock Froyo rom

I see ChevyNo1 has some Froyo Kernels for overclocking. Which ones
should I download, I am not sure of the differences between low voltage
and ultra low voltage. If someone can please let me know, thanks.


Also are these the best Kernels for overclocking, or are there better ones??

every kernel acts differently with every phone. Best to just make a backup and just try a few out. That way you will know what works best for your phone/rom. low volt just means that the power going to the cpu is less voltage that the stock voltage. Means the cpu will run cooler if you can run these kernels and not sacrifice speed.

So for the stock Froyo rom, which would you say would be best.
Ultra low voltage or low voltage?? I think I am going to stay in
the 1.0Ghz to 1.2Ghz range.

Like I said. Best to just try a few. See how your temps and battery life are.Also the speed of the phone. I run smoking fast on stock kernels but most don't. All about your phone/rom combo. Just don't forget to backup everything before you start playing around with kernels because some might cause boot loops at which point you WILL need that backup.

Just have fun with it.

Take his advice for sure!! You definitely don't want to get stuck in a loop and not have a backup.

I've used Chevy's low voltage 1.2ghz for months now and with my handset it works great.

yea.. perform a nandroid backup FOR SURE. some phones cannot handle the 1.2G overclock. And you'll know this if your phone boot loops, which means you will see it reset multiple time when you try to reboot your phone.

also certain phones cannot handle the Ultra low voltage kernels (like mine) i stick with the low voltage 1g to 1.1g kernels.

as far as what type. Again.. just create a sub folder called "Kernels" on your SD card..downlaod a few roms. I run slayer and chevys personally. And if you get stuck in a boot loop or you arent satisfied with the kernel ie: gets too hot or laggs, then just reboot into recovery and flash the other kernels until your happy.

I read somewhere that the 1.0 ULV kernel runs best on UD 8.0. I'm running 8.0 and it is incredible.

So I recommend those two in conjunction.

I highly recommend looking at the Overclocking 101 thread on Droid Forum. As far as voltage, run the lowest your phone can handle. I recommend testing with a standard voltage kernel first though to make sure your phone can handle whatever top clock speed you want to set within safe temperature levels.

Keep in mind also that the LV (low voltage) and ULV (ultra low voltage) labels are arbitrary, in that one dev's LV kernel is not necessary higher voltage at every clock speed than another's ULV.

I'm new to this as well. I've been messing with my moto droid every since last week. I'm running UD8 froyo Ex. chevyno1 LV 1.25GHZ. It's been stable so far and my phone is very snappy! You just have to experiment with the kernels. Please back up your roms. It sucks to start from stock no root!

For the clocks that are available in a stock kernel, I believe so. I think voltages for anything above what a stock kernel can do is guesswork.

For the ULV and LV question from what I have gathered it is that the kernal uses less voltage in comparison to what it would be using if it was stock so at any given speed it will be using less then what would be requested by a stock kernal but obviously as speed increase voltage will also need to go up. Now for the perfect combination just like everyone else said back everything up and give a few different kernal's a try.
