to the canadian telus htc desire owners

Yeah, if you're fine with the way the Desire is right now then stick with that (root if you want) otherwise if you want 2.2 then do it right now because as 2kfire said, Telus are notoriously slow at OS updates. I said elsewhere that I have feelings it'll not be til after Christmas when Telus pushes 2.2 OTA. Even the Milestone's 2.2 is delayed until Jan-Mar 2011.

That's fine by me, everyone else can work out the bugs. I want something that is solid not rushed out to the market for the impatient people who won't even utilize it anyway lol hilarious I say!

Froyo is an update to the android OS, not a complete redesign or major revision. As such, and as is the case with MOST software updates, it's more stable than builds of the previous version, in this case Eclair (as per reviews, read Gizmodo's review of Froyo for starters). Add to that the new features (including saving apps to external memory, wi-fi hotspot, and the speed improvements) and there is no reason NOT to update.

But hey, it's not like anybody would utilize more speed and the ability to store more apps, right?

Besides, the update mentioned above is an official HTC release and I don't think they'd kill sales of one of their hottest phones by releasing a buggy update.

So others can wait for the official Telus update, which might not come until gingerbread's released on other carriers, "that's fine by me". I'll continue enjoying my unbranded HTC update along with my up to 2.5x speed boost that I won't even utilize anyway :D
