Root Ok Here I go Again 3rd time is a charm

Right now my DX is completly stock, not even a phone# saved. I am not installing my original SD card because the last time I recovered the info and attemted to instal 2.2 it stuck me in bootloader purgatory again.

I know this is a dumb question but for some reason I keep getting stuck every time I try to install 2.2 from rom manager and bootstrapper.

What I have is

Firmware version
2.1-update1
Kernel version
2.6.29

I should be good to root download super user, rom manager, download bootstrapper and install 2.2

Right?

thanks

The order in which you do things is pretty important. Obviously, first you need to be rooted. I followed birdman's directions at rootzwiki for this, though it's more complicated than the one-click method (which also works, apparently). After you're successfully rooted install the bootstrapper, run it, and click Boostrap Recovery. Close that and download / open ROM Manager. Click the Flash Clockwork Mod Recovery at the very top and choose Droid X as your phone (duh). Then go to Download ROM > Stock Images > Verizon Droid X 2.2. It'll do its thing and upon rebooting you should be on Froyo build 2.3.9. Redownload Boostrapper if you lost it (somehow I did) as you need it from this point on. Then follow the directions linked to in my other post "don't forget, you can get 2.3.15 w/o OTA" to get to 2.3.15.

Before you do anything, though, make sure these directions are different than what you've been trying previously. No use in repeating mistakes.

Did you ever recover the other two phones you were working with? Using RSD Lite and "the gift" I would have thought you'd be able to get them back in working order.
