Anyone else having issues with getting notifications for gmail? I had six emails this morning and no notification on my phone, and, thinking back, I got around 2 dozen emails yesterday and never got notifications for them. Is this like the search button, where, because Pete moved it to the data cache, the gmail app isn't fully functional? Or is this happening to me only?

I'm running BB 0.5 (obviously), with stock kernel and Bugless Evolution 0.8 (and associated themed apps), with BE-themed LauncherPro Plus 0.7.9.0.

Anyone receive an update notification from the market, and then find that there were no apps listed under your apps list?

Everyone play with your market apps and see if they have similar issues.
Are you referring to the issue where free apps do not show in the market (only paid ones do, if you have them)?

If so, I get around this by temporarily downloading any free app. Doing so displays all of your already installed apps, for some reason.

Hope this isn't going to turn into a snipe fest. I'm using UD8 and it's the best I've used, of many ROMS, so far. I didn't at first based on principle, all the junk I had read, but I understand that UD8 now does give props appropriately. I've used BB ROMS and think they're awesome as well, but miss the customizations.

Yeah, once BlackDroid adds in everything Pete put in BB 0.5.

Pete explicitly states that you MUST wipe data/cache before installing this. ALSO: once the phone boots up, DO NOT TOUCH IT until it reboots. Don't be tempted by the Android and the hand - no touchy!

Very important stuff.

Oops, I touched it it last night... it was late, and I didn't think that's where it would reboot... I thought it had already done the second boot since it got to the Android and the hand... DARN!!! Hope I didn't mess anything up.

Maybe I should wipe, wipe, wipe and re-install?

(all seems to be good, though)

Like any other ROM, it seems to be incredible on certain phones and absolutely terrible on others. In my case, I fell into the "absolutely terrible" camp. Good to see that he's giving credit appropriately now, but like anyone who has a black cloud hanging over them, it takes time for it to fully dissipate. Most folks on this forum have moved on while others haven't - c'est la vie. If UD works the best for you on your phone, great! But let's not assume that for those of us (like myself) who didn't have a great experience using UD are commenting out of spite.

I know it said not to touch, but like a reflex, I touched the Android and started setting up my account. In fact, it went all the way through up till loading the homescreen before rebooting. That being said, I haven't had a SINGLE issue with the phone. After that 2nd reboot, every single one of my apps restored from the market. Chrome 2 Phone worked from the get go and it's been smooth sailing. I'm just chalking it up to this being one of those YMMV type of things..

Just wanted to give an update on my usage of BBv0.5 thus far..

1) The one thing that continues to impress is how smooth everything works. It just works and works well. If you're like me, a person who could care less about customization, especially at the expense of speed and battery life, BBv0.5 is a milestone of both stability and speed.

2) The kernel that comes preloaded with the ROM is plenty fast with the built in management, but I decided to initially use SetCPU to handle things. After about a day or so, I decided to uninstall CPU and flash Slayher's 1.2Ghz LV kernel and see how well the ROM would handle it. To my surprise, it handles it remarkably well, so much so that I'm kind of blown away by how much faster and smoother the ROM has become considering how fast and smooth it is by default! And temps have been very admirable considering my usage - I don't think I've topped 110F yet, and that's under heavy load!

3) Decided that I didn't want to keep the stock look, so I flashed the Bugless Evolution theme and couldn't be happier. The battery icon on notification bar is SICK! No hiccups or issues with installing the theme - works as expected and looks pretty cool too!

4) Usage has been awesome so far with everything working as it should. Notifications for emails, texts, gTalk, gVoice, etc... transitions are very, very smooth between screens and apps. Gallery is wicked fast. Even with the search button issue, I just dropped the Google Search icon on my primary screen - so it's pretty much a non-issue for me.

All in all, I'm incredibly pleased with this ROM. Like other posters who find ROMs that they feel were built specifically for their phone, BBv0.5 is that ROM for my Droid.

Absolutely. I didn't see any spite in your comments, but didn't see a need for the comment that I responded to. Just seemed unnecessary.

I downloaded Slayher's 1.2Ghz LV kernel (i think so its called LFY-1200.zip right) and wanted to know how do i install it using ROM Manager?

Unnecessary? Probably.

That doesn't necessarily mean it's false, either, does it? If UD9 comes out and has NOTHING from BB 0.5, not only would I be greatly surprised, I'll also offer up an apology here and donate to BlackDroid, just like I did with Pete for doubting BB 0.5 was ever coming.

As an update, my gmail is synching normally now - for whatever reason, when I updated, my google account settings changed and it was only synching my contacts and calendar. I re-checked the gmail box, and all is well.

At least we can agree that it was unnecessary. Sounds like you're choosing to believe it true as well, with no evidence. Your choice I suppose. In the interest of keeping this thread clear of UD8 gaga, this is my last comment. Sorry I've let it go this far. Thank you.

The file I downloaded was from the Froyo Kernels thread and was called "slayher_7x1200LV_v1.6.zip" - to install, do the following:

- Download the zip file and place it anywhere on your SD Card
- Choose the "Install ROM from SD Card" option in ROM Manager
- Navigate to where you saved the zip file and select it
- You'll be prompted to "Wipe Data / Cache" and "Backup ROM", now there's no need to wipe when installing a kernel, however I HIGHLY recommend making a backup just in case the kernel cause you to boot loop
- You'll reboot into Recovery, the backup will be made, then the kernel will install and your phone will reboot

Once it reboots, you should now have the kernel installed. To confirm, goto Settings => About Phone => Kernel Version. It should say something along the lines of 2.6.32.9_slayher

well this really sucks for me. I was liking how fast it was, and I keep getting low memory issues and now I have no more room for text messages. I only have 2 text messages on the phone. So I am going to try UD 9....

You need to go into Clockworkmod Recovery and do a manual wipe (I did mine 3x). I believe that will fix your low memory problem.

For some reason, Clockworkmod Recovery is not wiping automatically even when the option to do so is selected. Try this and reinstall. I bet it will work.

Let us know what happens!

Yeah, once BlackDroid adds in everything Pete put in BB 0.5.

Whatever...
If Blackdroid is stealing from Pete, why are their ROMs so different? BB lags on my phone, whereas UD rocks. GurLuvsDroid can't use UD, but loves BB. Those facts sure seem to disprove your allegations.

The bottom line: It's open-source! Hello!!! Every single dev is "borrowing" code at some level or another ... and without giving credit. And that, is also a fact.

I never said he was stealing or not crediting Pete or anything. Geez, you BD supporters are sure a touchy bunch. BlackDroid tries to cram EVERYTHING into UltimateDroid (hence the name), so why wouldn't he add in Pete's new features from a widely-respected ROM like BB, features that aren't in other ROMs? I think it's funny that I say something that's very likely factual and said without malice (honestly, I'm apathetic towards Blackdroid and UD in general) and BD supporters get bent all out of shape. Relax a little bit, guys - the BD witchhunt is over.

Yeah that's happening to me too. Tried clearing data/cache for the market, didn't fix it.

There is a thread droid general board about this too. The poster didn't specify if he was rooted/running a custom rom or if he was stock. So i'm not sure if it is a rooted droid issue or if the market is just down for everyone.

Edit: just tried the market and it worked. Maybe try clearing data/cache and just wait a few minutes.

I was having the same market issues you guys were, and then I wiped the data/cache for the market and poof we are running great again!! Thanks

I'm happy to see that v.5 is working out for most of you. Two questions:

There are many comments about speed and smoothness. My current ROM is smooth and fast too... but it comes to a screeching halt periodically to redraw the home screen. How noticable are screen redraws on BB.5?

The main reason I use Cyanogenmod is because the stock email app will notify me if I have new mail in my subfolders. Does BB.5 do this (this one's a deal breaker, I'm not going back to touchdown)?

Thanks...

i have honestly not had one redraw... not one! i dont know about the email i do not use subfolders sorry.

i think that how a rom works on your phone varies depending on how your phone handles the instal. i say this because i was running ud8 with absolutely no complaints or redraws either. then i tried lfy 1.6 which ran my phone incredibly hot so i was gonna wipe and format (just to be safe) and redo my nandroid of ud8 when i accidentally formatted my sd card:mad:...yea... that sucked!

so i had to start from square one. i still had my prior download of ud8 on my laptop so i loaded it onto my phone. i then noted some lag and other performance issues with this rom. luckily bb v0.5 came out and i flashed it, but i will try ud9 when it arrives:)
