From what it seems the only way you can get swype if you dont have it or may ever get it is to get on the beta testing (when ever it opens again) or get a phone with swype on it. this is what I read over at xda from a swype rep

"I'm the beta community relations rep for Swype (Brian Resnik, if you're over on the Swype forums).

First of all, yes we're watching you HAHA. I'm obligated to wag my finger at you all for distributing our software without a license. A little patience will go a long way. Trust me, the more the brass hears about people illegally copying Swype and feeling entitled to a free version (yes, we know there's no copy on the market for you to buy, but you have to respect that OEM distribution is our chosen business model), the less they want to support a beta program at all. The better we play nice with eachother, the sooner more people get into the beta!"

If OEM is their chosen business model it seems that it will never show up in the market place which kinda sucks and seems kinda silly on their part because they could also make some additional money. People are just going to end up distributing illegal copies.

What do you think. will it ever show up in the market place?

The best conjecture I've heard so far is that they are targeting new hardware contracts so that they can avoid having to offer support for the product (which they would have to do if they sold it as an app). This also limits the hardware systems that they have to develop the software for compatibility. As popular as it is, I can't imagine that they've taken this long and still not put out a paid app if that's their intent.

I think its possible but not likely anytime soon. I would like to see the number of swype developers that complain about us illegally copying swype, who have a rooted phone with free tethering, or who illegally download movies and music. Kinda hyprocritical if u ask me. I know this wasn't speciffically aimed at EVO users, but what are we supposed to do? We want swype and its not on the market yet offically. Do I have a working beta copy of swype? Yes. Will I use it when I get my EVO back from best buy? Absolutely. Will I buy it if it ever comes to market? Damn skippy I will. Why don't they just do what every other app developer does? Put the beta up on the market or on their website for sale, then update accordingly when bugs arise. I would gladly pay $10 for a legit copy of swype. The version I have works perfectly, what more testing is needed, at least for EVO users? All I say is, give us the option, we'll gladly pay for swype.

I was wondering why I couldn't find the swype download thread on xda anymore. The developers probally got it pulled.

I dont care whether it hits the market or not, i have a copy and have since hacked it to have no ending date. I would pay for the software if i could, but im gunna have it on my phone whether i have to hack it or buy it... their mentality doesnt make sense from a business standpoint. think of the profit margin on making it open to any phone...

I love slidit, been using it since day 1, but after using swype. I rather swype now. the speed vs accuarcy works, so I can set all the way to accuarcy, I have to train less words. swype spells it correct, when slidit never did. swype you can click on 1 button to get to the up/down/left/right. slide it you have to click about 4 times.

Until I can get swype perminant then I will stick w/ slideIt
