I believe that if you have unlimited data, you can/will be "grandfathered" into that data package unless you choose otherwise.

Old news. They're introducing tiered pricing when they launch LTE. Existing 3G users will be grandfathered in if they change the terms for 3G as well.

If they change your terms like that mid-contract, you can terminate without an ETF.

When Verizon makes the official announcement it will take affect at the given date they have chosen. It will affect those who are becoming customers and those who are renewing their contract from that date and beyond. They will more than likely send a letter to their customers concerning this change.

Not bad, problem is the dropped calls, and the coverage is terrible.

While unlimited is great, as long as they offer a 500mb, 2gb and 5gb everyone(almost) should be covered. At&t's 200mb is too low I think, but they definitely need to offer something above 2gb.

That sux. I hope the loyal customers of VZW will get grandfathered also. I've been with them before they were Verizon! I've had the same phone number for 19 years! Back when cellphones were HUGE! and cost an arm and a leg to operate!

Anyway, seems crappy to me that they can change whenever they want to and we just have to bend over and take it!

You can switch to a different carrier if you like, but you are going to be doing a lot of switching. This IS going to become pretty much standard with all the major carriers over the next year or two.

Honestly this doesn't bother me too much. I love my 3g but it isn't great in my area, and I'm around WiFi all the time. I could live with 200mb but that would be not worth it. Hopefully they be decent about this, and do like $15 for a gig but I highly doubt it, maybe half gig(500mb)

I agree, as long as I have been with verizon they cannot alter your plan if you do not choose to renew it. They try to sucker you in with the deals on new phones. I am planning on spending about 500-600 on my next phone buying it from someone other than verizon to avoid losing my unlimited data plan. If you make ANY change to your account after your contract is up you will default to a plan that is available at that time. rather than the one you currently have.

Sprint is the only major carrier that doesn't already have tiered pricing. Seriously...this is not the end of the world. When Verizon rolls out their plan and you see how it will affect you based on real information rather than speculation and conjecture, THEN run around like Chicken Little screaming that the sky is falling...until then, just chill out and enjoy your unlimited data.

Actually your plan and your phone contract are two different things. Some new phones may require a new plan but I'm still on an old Americas Choice I plan from 2006 and have upgraded to blackberries and driods without having to change my base plan. I've just had to add data. You can change your plan at anytime to a new plan without incurring a commitment, it's when you buy new subsidized hardware that you sign a 1 or 2 year contract. That being said, I'm guessing all LTE phones will need to have an LTE data plan in order to be activated which means an end to unlimited data.

I expect Verizon's pricing will be similar to AT&T's. 2GB plan is $25, then if you go over, an additional 1GB is an additional $10.

As long as they continue to improve and expand the network I don't have a problem with this. It was inevitable and they gave us a good amount of forewarning. It will be interesting to see how they handle existing plans as they haven't touched that topic at all and can easily break precedence in favor of starting a new standard.

Switching carriers won't exempt you from the tiered data plans, but you may be able to get better pricing on a different carrier. Either way I'm sticking with big red, their LTE network should be the bees knees.

every time verizon has changed their plans i have been grandfathered in. I now renewed my contract with them when i got my incredible and i got grandfathered in on the insurance plan ($5/month for insurance and extended warranty) and its currently $8/month for the same thing. so even if the plan changes, untill you upgrade your plan or add it on after you might get grandfathered in even if renewing your contract.

but this news is pretty lame. I think they should put a cap on it around 4gb for the 29.99 plan then you can get bigger plans if you want.

Meh, no biggie. As stated, you'd be grandfathered in with your existing device and plan until you reup your contract. You can sometimes also buy a phone at full retail without changing your plans.

From what I read in rags like the WSJ, the prevailing thought is that 3G data would remain unlimited and there would be some type of cap on 4G data under the new plans. I'd be very happy if the new plans turn out that way.

There is no point in being angry. It's a fact - this has been known to the community for a long time now.

LTE will spark the transition to capped-tiered data plans and the removal of unlimited data plans.

With how people use their phones (free unlimited wireless tethering didn't help I'm sure), Verizon and all other companies are forced to enforce this plan.

AT&T is actually doing it before Verizon.

Be happy that you will have unlimited 3g for another year and a half (assuming you purchased the Incredible upon released date).

It's the future for everyone. Unlimited data plans are the past. Capped tiered plans are the future.

There is nothing you can do about it and all providers will follow suit. Threatening to switch providers doesn't make you look savvy and will not fix your problem.

Unfortunately, you just have to get over it and move on.

tecnicailly a contract is a contract binding on both sides so if you have a plan now it will be grandfathered unless you change your plan. but still it would be enforced until the 2 years is up.
