ASTRO (in the MarketPlace) -- I think this is a great app .. its predicessor was Bender ... File manager, txt and html Viewer and the Lastest ...the apps reads your catalog of installed aps and makes a backup of the x.apk into a backup folder on the SDCARD ... I have tried a restore yet .... but I would assume that APSInstaller could use the these apks or "ASTRO" make call an apk installer...

I will report back once I have removed an app and tried to reinstall from ASTRO's backup ....

I uninstalled app "BucketUpload" ... then I used ASTRO to reinstall the app from the backup on my SDCard ... everything went smoothly .... very nice ... and no network connect time needed to download the app ...

I have been wanting to do a factory data reset to see how much memory I get back. I have installed ASTRO and backed up my apps. What else do I have to do to get my apps back after I do the the reset

Just re-run Astro and select the backup tab and restore each app ... be careful not to remove APKInstaller ... and ASTRO as well as some of the other Apps that came installed unless you plan on using the market... (the originals will probably be there and restored by the Factory reset) ...
Good Luck ...

I restored my apps using astro after a factory reset, now many of my apps don't show up in the market downloads section. Will these files ever get updated if the don't show up in downloads?

Hi There

I am not a user of the Android Market App so I will comment on what I do use, AppBrain. I just re-installed an application using Astro. AppBrain picked it up as a new app on my Desire (running FroYo) and added it to my list of apps to be updated.

So I can confidently say that if you are using AppBrain (highly recommended) and you re-install an app using Astro and/or its backups, it WILL get updated.

Hope this helps. :)

I uninstalled Astro months ago b/c it was posted over and over that when restoring backed up apps, they would no longer be recognized/updated in the market due to a broken market link. Not sure if that's still the case so take it with as many grains of salt as it deserves.

As I have mentioned previously, this is not the case when using AppBrain.

Sorry for bringing back a dead thread guys. I'm getting ready to move from my Incredible over to a GNex today. When you do an app backup in Astro, does it save the current data in your apps? Example, I'd like to carry over where I am in Angry Birds. If I backup my apps with Astro, will it just install Angry Birds fresh, or will my current state in the game be there as well?

Thanks!

No, it will not. You have to be rooted in order to backup app data. If you are rooted you can use apps like MyBackup Pro or Titanium Backup to save app data.
