Low on Space? Notification Problem, help?

I cant upload any apps or cant see my texts or send any because it says my Phone Storage space is getting low.
What can i do?
I Already erased a ton of apps and my sd card has 3gb+ memory thats free. i have a 8gb card.

I try and restart my phone to see if it resets the warning and it doesnt. What can i do?

And also, i have texts from people that have 2000+ texts saved on the phone. Is that the problem?
If so. I cant delete them. Is there a way to delete them by accessing a folder or soemthing? WHen i hold the message and press delete its on the same screen for minutes and doesnt change.

Edit: Also, what can i delete to add more space to my internal memory?

its notifying you that the internal memory is getting full you have to delete more apps, I would suggest getting a rom with a2sd.

Download an app called "SMS Cleaner Free"....it will wipe those texts. Warning it will take a long time to delete that many texts from one person...i'm talking maybe hours. I never let my texts get over 300....i wipe them after that if a contact gets over 300.

Do you use maps a lot? Or the internet? Could try deleting the cache on them to free up some app space.

I think you should consider rooting your phone. This is the exact reason why I did it. I deleted all my texts, emails, a ton of apps, cache, anything that popped in my head and I kept getting that low on space notification. I rooted my phone and did app2sd. Problem solved. I know its not for everyone and it seems complicated but if you follow the steps in the rooting for dummies guide its a piece of cake. Just make sure to keep a backup of your stock 2.1 just in case.

How do i root my phone?

There are several ways you can go about rooting your phone. Eris - All Things Root - Android Forums has a lot of threads with a lot of information available to guide you through the process. After you root your phone, you will probably want to grab a rom to flash. There are a few options for you here as well. If you want a rom with 2.2 you can grab KayosFroyo, Tazz Froyo, or Nonsensikal. There are others out there, but these I can speak on from experience.

If you want a 2.1 rom, xtrROM is probably the most popular. There is even a xtrSense version that keeps all the sense elements of the phone.

I think I have solved my "low on space" problem. I thought about (and am still considering) rooting my phone to have the ability to store apps on the SD card. But I realized that really doesn't solve the problem in that something was eating up memory even when I deleted redundant applications, unwanted applications, cleared caches and deleted old text messages. Eventually, whatever application or function that was growing would fill up the SD card, so in this case rooting would only mask the problem.

After a lot of researching on this topic and trying the below
-deleting unwanted or redundant applications
-clearing caches on all applications
-deleting old text messages

I realized that when I deleted old text messages what remained was any MMS (pictures) that I sent or received. Manually deleting any MMS I sent and reviewing and deleting MMS I received (saving what I wanted to my SD card before deleting) increased my internal memory by 20MB thus elimination the chronic low on space notification.

Agreed - you need to delete those texts. That's what's eating your memory. It is going to take a while - maybe do it overnight? Good luck.

How do i root my phone?

Crush80, I've had my Eris since May, so I'm new to the Android experience. I also had reservations about rooting my phone. I was concerned about warranty issues (rooting voids warranty on Verizon phones), possibility of bricking the phone (I was out of town when I made the decision. A bricked phone meant I lost my main means of comm!) and the general fear of jumping into the unknown, even though I consider myself an above average user of technology.

Well, I made the decision to root and I have been extremely pleased with my phone's operations over the last 3 days since I rooted and installed a different rom.

The biggest improvement I noticed was the massive increase in available memory for apps storage and Ram for apps operations. I went from problems similar to what you were having (running out of storage for apps) and having insufficient ram due to so many apps running, to having more than I imagined!

For your reference, I routinely never had more than 30mb of storage on the phone and no more than 33mb of Ram. After rooting and adding a custom rom (XTRSense for my Eris) I had 91mb for storage and 93mb of Ram!!! I've loaded everything I wanted and could think of wanting over the last 3 months, and I still have 45mb of storage left!!!

This is plenty of room for me to experiment with new apps and decide what to keep and what to delete.

BTW, I used the one-click rooting app to do my rooting. If a person can read and follow instructions, rooting is fairly painless.
