Not using the Keyboard ?

umm yeah.... mytoch 3g is still on android 1.6...that's why.

now the real answer to your question: the only option for 2.1 at the time i got my free upgrade (june 2nd) was the slide. a few weeks later there was one other option which was the vibrant and those that know me from the behold 2 forum know why I will never buy samsung again. now there is the g2 which looks to be a sick phone but I'm totally happy continuing to not use the keyboard on my slide ;) plus the g2 has a keyboard too. i may consider the mytouch hd but want to wait and see what it really has to offer.

btw my wife on the other hand swears by the keyboard. she can't stand to use swype but i won't txt without it anymore.

I'm not trying to be a A$$ Hole ,, but just wanted to know, If you have a phone with a physical keyboard why not use it ? ... other wise wouldn't have it been better to get the MyTouch 3G ?

coming from a blackberry curve i figured i needed a smartphone WITH the kbd. i tried playing with the physical kbd and it just didn't work for me. my nails get in the way, plus i just felt it was ugly (my opinion). i cant swype if my life depended on it, so the on-screen kbd does just fine. i think im actually faster typing on the screen then i was on my bb curve. i started off using thick buttons but when i heard about better kbd and its skins i was sold.

Before I bought the Slide, the only Android phone I'd used was a Droid Eris and I hated the virtual keyboard. Because of that I was specifically shopping for a phone with a physical keyboard. Once I got the Slide I noticed that it had Swype installed and figured I might use it for really quick text entry instead of sliding out the keyboard and switching to landscape. It took almost no time at all for me to end up liking Swype better though and I haven't used the physical keyboard in quite a while. My next Android won't have a keyboard because of that...

I use Swype sometimes... but only when I need to send a message and only have one fee hand.. but 95 percent of the time its they physical keyboard for me... I don't event look at the keys anymore... I wonder if there is an app that test you words per minute..

probably not what you're looking for EXACTLY but theres an app called txtspeed that does this. its more so like a game though
