I can not get over my battery life now!

The update had to have helped. Never got battery life like this before. I'm at 14 hours 36 minutes and 60%! I do power off the phone at night when I go to bed and plug it in.

voice calls 40%
display 27%
phone idle 10%
cell standby 9%
browser 6%
android system 4%
android os 2%
backgrounds 2%

I have no task killer. GPS and wifi off. Screen brightness on 4%. Twice today I turned off News Feeds and Skype. But they keep turning back on.....irritating!

Screen brightness on 4%.

I don't really get people's hangups with screen brightness. These screens are lit by a few LEDs. Hook up this size battery to those LED's and just leave them on, and it would power them for a year.

When you dim the screen, you're essentially flashing the LEDs on and off, which itself takes power to do. The LED itself doesn't dim. Auto brightness will use more power though, as the sensor is constantly reporting to the phone, and the phone is constantly calculating what brightness should be.

These screens really use battery because they have to be consantly energized in order to pick up your touches. The larger the screen, the more power it takes.

I dim my screen because it's too bright and hurts my eyes, not because I think leaving it bright is going to eat battery.

Mine was decent before, but it is definitely better now. I would be at 100% at bed time, wake and be at 60 or 70% now it's at 90%. Through the day it seems to last longer too, harder to tell since some days I'm getting txt spammed and others I don't hear from anyone, also I'm not consistant on how much I play with it. Same settings as prior to update.

I had my phone go from 60% back up to 70%. It was at 60% for so long I got mad lol. Maybe this is the JIT taking effect?

56 hours on the extended battery in max battery saver mode. Watched some anime, listened to a lot of music, a bit of nav, background data on (my emails are coming through on time), flickie hd, random surfing, texting...

I can't get over it either.

I'm not exactly sure the difference between the iPhone and the DX outside of screen size, but the iPhone was great with battery life for me. With the update my battery dies at about midday and I charge my phone every night.

I took off the live wallpaper and re-placed it with a photo one instead. Verizon should send out some sort of formal white paper on the best settings to use to extend your phone life. With this many blog issues about battery life as much as I love this phone it's got me thinking on what's next. I'm reviewing other peoples blog posts but I'm thinking it is what it is. If I have to decide what settings I can use and not use by turning off wifi and push for email and the other apps then the phone becomes much less useful - and that's counter productive of why I got the phone to begin with.

Great point, Kazrell...I was just going through these forums to try and decide which apps and settings to turn off in order to extend my battery life. Meanwhile, my wife (iPhone user) was using her phone for the entire time (about 1 1/2 hours) surfing the internet, replying to e-mails, texts, etc., without ever worrying about running down her battery. She has sssooooo many apps on her phone, and she couldn't tell you which ones are always active, because SHE DOESN'T CARE...her battery life isn't an issue, so she doesn't HAVE to care.
I love my Droid X (especially the screen size for my fat fingers), but if I can't use it (fast processor and all) for fear of running out of juice, it defeats the purpose.

BTW, exactly WHICH update did you guys run for this that you're talking about? It would be nice to include that in the thread.

I just had a new personal best with my DX: 1d 18h 43m. Yes, almost 43 hours! That's what it was at last night when I plugged it in... and still showing 30%! Been kind of light use, but on the entire time, GPS, WiFi and Background Data on (WiFi turns off during non-peak hours, so basically when I'm asleep), screen brightness off when indoors, and around 40% when outdoors. I took some pics, madde a few phone calls, sent some texts, streamed some Pandora, downloaded a couple MP3s and some apps, updated a bunch of apps, played some games (Angry Birds and Homerun Battle 3D mostly), surfed the net, did some Foursquare checkins, all the normal stuff I do. This kind of use would get my iPhone to 20%-40% by the end of day 1, about 15 hours off the charger. Loving this phone! Seems the 2.2 update that fixed that GPS bug helped more than I thought it would! I don't think I'll be shopping for the extended life battery any time soon....

Very true. Maybe an iPhone is a better phone for you. I don't mean that in any mean way - but an iPhone is a better phone for someone who doesn't want to think about owning a small computer.

The tradeoff is that you can't do a lot of the stuff you can do on an Android phone.

I love my Droid X (especially the screen size for my fat fingers), but if I can't use it (fast processor and all) for fear of running out of juice, it defeats the purpose.

Very true. I use and abuse mine all day long with no consideration for battery life and rarely end up needing a charger. That doesn't mean you have the same experience - I'm just saying that it's possible.

There's only one update that's come out recently. That'd be the 2.2 "Froyo" upgrade.
